What’s one thing you’ve wanted to do in your business but hadn’t? What’s stopping you? What if you could achieve this idea without any limitations or challenges. You have everything you need. Just roll with me here. What would you do?
This year is going to be a breakout year for SwagHer Magazine. I feel confident about it because I have learned a trick to planning out activities and promotions. The secret is to know if you are a top-down planner or a bottom-up planner.
Let me explain. If you are a top-down planner, you see the big picture first, and then you break it down into smaller details and actions. Once you have everything together, you then work your plan starting at the bottom or the beginning, of course. You work your way down the hierarchy.
If you are a bottom-up planner, you first see the more minor details and actions and develop them into something bigger. You still have a plan that you work on from the beginning, but it came about from a smaller idea, not the grand scheme of things. You work your way up the hierarchy.
I’ve learned that I am a top-down planner. Knowing this allows me to create multiple projects to keep the magazine afloat. I’m also lucky to have a team and Jarmel to help with things, but we’re actually down two team members at this time and will be for a bit longer. However, this does not worry me as it allows me time to work in my business to see how things are going or how they have changed.
It doesn’t matter if you are a top-down planner or a bottom-up planner. Either way is acceptable as long as you have a plan in place. This year we want to be strategic about how we move, so we are planning out everything. Now think back to that project or idea we were discussing before. Imagine if you had a template in place that you could create once and then revamp it as you need. Now you really can go for it!
I’d love to know which type of planner you are and what you are working on below in the comments.
