Building Relationships All 2024- Beginning-of-the-Year PR Tip

Building relationships all 2024 is the plan, and if you are looking to increase your visibility this year, make it a goal to create connections that can help you grow your business. Cultivate relationships with relevant journalists and influencers to foster media coverage and other opportunities.  Connecting to the right individuals and entities can lead to positive media coverage and endorsements. Below are tips for making connections.

Building Connections with Journalists

To get started, I recommend researching articles related to your industry/product/service and then noting who the writer is. Once you have the author’s name, read more of their work to familiarize yourself with them. Another good measure before officially connecting is to share the work of the journalists. We really appreciate this. Personally, I know I am more open to being approached when I know someone supports my work.

Building Connections with Influencers

You can do a search on social media to see which influencers populate and are related to that topic. Follow them on their socials and genuinely engage with their content. When you can, comment thoughtfully, share their posts, and participate in relevant discussions. Building a sincere connection increases the likelihood of them noticing and reciprocating.

You can also sometimes find these individuals’ contact information through their social media. Instagram is my go-to for looking for email addresses. I love to see a Contact tab in a bio! You can also use services like Hunter.io to find email addresses.

Whether journalists or influencers, it’s important to understand their interests. This way, you can tailor your pitches. Note, please do not send mass emails to these individuals. It’s a major turn-off.

Engaging with journalists and influencers creates valuable partnerships, leading to endorsements and expanded reach. These relationships provide opportunities for positive storytelling, effective crisis management, and staying top-of-mind in your industry, ultimately contributing to a favorable public image and business success. Imagine if you were the first person a journalist thought of as a source or inspiration for a story!

Strong relationships can lead to positive media coverage and more credibility. May we all build solid relations all 2024!
