Conversations w/ Black Women in Tech: Ep. 8

Conversations with Black Women in Tech is back with another special guest to share her unique experiences as a Black woman in the tech space.

With over 17 years of technology experience specific to the luxury fashion and beauty space, Karla Wallace is currently consulting as a Sr. Manager, Project Management E-commerce for one of the nation’s top beauty conglomerates while also running her small business targeted at nonprofits and small Black-owned businesses.

In the past, this Black woman in tech has held positions taking her across Europe and Canada, sharing her knowledge and skillset amongst peers and C-suite executives alike.

Karla’s brand partnerships have included Zound Industries, the parent company of Urbanears.com and MarshallHeadphones.com, and Adidas Sound. Karla began her e-commerce career by creating Merchandising and Operational magic for the powerhouse fashion company Jones Apparel Group. During her tenure, she handled everything from website builds (and rebuilds), customer service, talent scouting and development, e-commerce visual merchandising, and cross-functional retail development. She has intimate knowledge of the ins and outs of large and small, brick and mortar and e-commerce retail businesses and can help with any aspect a brand could need.

With that in mind, five years ago, the project manager began lending her expertise to local small Black-owned businesses and non-profits through her consulting agency, Twelve27 Digital.

Philanthropically, her efforts do not go unnoticed. Karen serves on the executive board of The National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women Clubs Inc. She is also a member of the NAACP and a vocal supporter of Planned Parenthood, Act Blue, and other worthwhile organizations.
