Creator of the Ultimate Self-Care Sunday Shares 4 Tips for Incorporating Self-Care

When Ma’Sheka became interested in health, it was due to her own personal experiences in 2018. Experiencing extreme hives breakouts caused by stress, she was prescribed medicine for stress management, but Ma’Sheka was inspired to take an alternative holistic approach to treat her condition. After beginning yoga, she quickly fell in love with the practice, wanted to share it with others, and felt she had found her true purpose.

She then founded A Healthier You, Inc. to encourage and inspire others to better understand health, holistic alternatives, and the importance of self-care and self-love.

Ma’Sheka shared with me four ways to incorporate self-care into your daily routine.

Stating that, “It’s important to note that self-care looks different for everyone. Hence the word, “self”! However, there are some categories that you can try to hit.

  • Start small: A lot of times, people think they need to change their entire lifestyle in one day. Not only is that not realistic, but it’s not necessary! Establish small goals to get to your big goal. Whether it’s eating right, meditating, saying affirmations, journaling, or anything else, ease yourself into it. Don’t put unrealistic pressure on yourself to completely change everything overnight. Be kind to yourself and embrace the process!
  • Try to move your body: If you haven’t been active in a while, try starting with a short walk in your neighborhood 2 or 3 times a week. You can increase your frequency or even try a light jog when you feel comfortable. The main thing here is consistency, at whatever level you’re at. Don’t give up on yourself!
  • Spend time outdoors: Again, even though it’s almost winter, that doesn’t mean you should be depriving your body of the outdoors! Throw on a hoodie and take a brisk walk or jog; even just walking around the block is better than nothing. Once it warms up, consider hikes, swimming pools, and other fun outdoor activities!
  • Get your rest: Today’s society likes to encourage a culture and lifestyle of hustle, always working and grinding. While I’m a hard worker myself, constantly being in work mode is not healthy. Be sure you’re getting a minimum of six hours of sleep per night, preferably eight!

Ma’Sheka will be hosting her inaugural Ultimate Self Care Sunday event on November 6, 2022. This is a full-day event that provides adults with tools and resources to help individuals address, improve, and prioritize their whole health and wellness journey. The day is filled with sessions that will educate and inform individuals on creating and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, leading to less stress, anxiety, and depression, and greater happiness, balance, and positive outcomes. Also, lessons on how to connect with their emotions through journaling will ultimately lead participants to find ways to properly tend to themselves properly in a way that benefits them moving forward.
