Meet Style Mobb University Founder Tiffané Nicol

Tiffané Nicol, CEO of Style Mobb University and Founder of The Beauty and Barber Bosses Awards shares what inspired her to create Style Mobb University.  She has expanded her reach in the beauty industry by creating HBCU Beauty School, Style Mobb University.

What inspired you to start Style Mobb University?  Style Mobb University came from me owning and operating commission-based salons. Most of my stylists would either be fresh out of school or new stylists, and I found myself having to train them from the basics of shampoo to the salon reality. So, Style Mobb University was produced initially 7 years ago with Advanced Salon Training/ Salon Reality Training Classes. In 2019, I opened up Style Mobb University as a Beauty Grad School, where existing stylists can come and enhance their existing skillsets and learn new techniques from Beauty Licensed Educators. We partnered with several schools in Atlanta and received so much success that the students preferred to enroll into Style Mobb University for the entire cosmetology education course.  At the top of the pandemic, I found a way to utilize my existing salon as a full-service cosmetology school. Since then, we have enrolled over 100 students and successfully graduated 36 students. In addition, Style Mobb University adopted the HBCU culture, providing the whole college experience for our students! We offer on-campus housing, dual enrollment, and an advanced training 10-week program that provides an authentic salon experience.

What do you feel is missing from the Beauty and Barber Industry in highlighting leaders and talent?  It is time for the Beauty and Barber Industry Leaders to get their flowers. Our passion and hard work can sometimes go unnoticed and unappreciated, but it is that very same passion and hard work that adds to a person’s confidence, storytelling, even down to a mood.  What was the inspiration behind The Beauty and Barber Bosses Awards?  The BBB Awards was inspired by my experience of being a Celebrity Make-Up Artist and sometimes not feeling appreciated for the work and countless hours we put into developing these looks. Working in specific professional settings, even with your everyday customers, you can feel like “just a hairstylist.” But we are so much more than that. We are artists who dedicate our time and craft to our clients. We are, in most cases, pillars in communities, almost like churches and therapists. We sacrifice a whole lot. I remember being pregnant in my    last months still spending hours doing hair. So many times, my hands and feet were swollen. But that’s how passionate I am; we care about our craft and our clients. So I wanted to uplift and celebrate the Beauty and Barber industry for that very reason.  We are so needed. Before any artist grace a stage that is serviced by their glam squad. And, most times, we are the last to receive a thank you. The Beauty and Barber Bosses Awards will shift that narrative and give roses to all the diamonds in the ruffs that don’t receive their flowers.    What is the goal of Style Mobb University? Style Mobb University would like to become a franchise brand, placing a Style Mobb University in major cities nationwide. The goal is to change the way beauty education looks and prepare budding Beauty Industry Leaders for a successful career in the beauty industry. Not just fostering the talent that they come with but also developing their knowledge of the business of beauty.
