Miami Tight End Cam McCormick Granted Ninth Year of College Football Eligibility

Miami tight end Cam McCormick has been granted another year of college eligibility. When most people look back, they tend to rate their college experience as the best four years of their lives. Still, Miami tight end Cam McCormick will have a lot to reminisce about due to the fact that he’s been granted a ninth year of college football.

McCormick has experienced an injury-ridden career as a college student-athlete, and he’s been successful in regards to petitioning the NCAA for additional time. The 2024 season will be McCormick’s ninth year, and he has labeled his final season as ‘the last ride.’

A native of Bend, Oregon, Cam McCormick entered the 2015 season rated as the No.1 tight end prospect in the country’s western half before a leg injury sidelined him for the remainder of his senior year.

As a freshman at the University of Oregon, Cam McCormick utilized his redshirt for the 2016 season. A redshirt freshman is a student-athlete who sits out of gameplay their freshman year and begins their first athletic season when they’re academically a sophomore.

McCormick played in all 13 games in 2017, but unfortunately, in 2018, he suffered a season-ending injury in the first game of the year against Bowling Green. In 2019, McCormick would once again miss the entire college football season due to injury.

As a senior in 2020, Cam McCormick missed the entire pandemic-shortened season due to injury. As a senior in 2021, McCormick played in the first two games before sustaining a season-ending injury. McCormick finally played another entire season of football when he was a seventh-year senior in 2022.

During his time with the Oregon Ducks, Cam McCormick’s head coach was Mario Cristobal. In an unexpected move, Cristobal left Oregon to coach his alma mater, the Miami Hurricanes. McCormick would go on to follow his coach as he transferred to Miami.

For the 2023 season as the tight end for the University of Miami Hurricanes, Cam McCormick played in all 13 games and had a season total of 8 catches for 62 yards and 0 touchdowns. Primarily known for being a blocking tight end, Cam McCormick will be returning to Miami classified as a ninth-year senior.

At the start of the 2024 college football season, Cam McCormick will be 26 years old. To put his collegiate journey in perspective, in 2015, Cam McCormick was in the same high school recruiting class as the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts and the Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert.
