Our Black Leaders: Happy Birthday #MarshaPJohnson The Gay Rights Activist Born In 1945 Is Honored

Bullshit we flyin ovah – @Beyonce.

If there were a real Alien Superstar, it would be Muva, Marsha P Johnson.   Today would have been his 77th birthday.  Born Malcolm Michaels Jr on August 24th, 1945, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, a drag queen and a savior to so many others like him.  Johnson launched the GLF, the Gay Liberation Front, which was a sling of nonprofit organizations developed to equalize the gay American.  Many groups formed on the day after the Stonewall Riots in New York City in 1969.  The “P” in her drag persona stands for “pay it no mind,” a charge to anti-gay promoters.  Does it really matter what sex someone is if they’re not sleeping with you?

Today on Twitter, tons of LGBTQIA+ groups, actors, activists, and historians paid homage to this Queen.  Beyonce’s latest record, Renaissance, has been a celebratory musical nod to the Marsha P Johnson’s of the World.  It is about time we made space for everyone to feel safe.
