Putting Yourself Back Out There- A Social Media Blog

Put yourself back out there on social media, sis!

It’s easy to get caught up in wearing so many hats that we forget one of our most important ones. Can you guess which hat I’m referring to?

You guessed it, content creator. Many of us do not look at ourselves as content creators though we should because once we do, we start to take our social media more seriously. But if you are like me, as many of you are, you are a multi-hyphenate business owner, and sometimes we get caught up in one role, and it’s easy to forget about the others.

I do it too….

That is how I can get at times when I put my publicist hat on. I’m only thinking about what I can do for my clients, and I may forget about my social media, even when I am on a streak. That’s what happened this month, as I focused on finding new outlets for clients and other opportunities.

What happens when we don’t post

However, what this does for my social media is take me out of the algorithm, which means when I come back and begin to post again, I’ll have to work to get my posts seen by my audiences. This is not what you want, but here’s the thing, we all do it. It’s like the reel re-enactment that I’m sure you have seen when the person says, “Me coming to post to my followers after…..” or something like that.

The truth about social media is…

Sometimes social media can be a headache or make you feel less than others. I mean, it’s a visual application, and not all the time do we feel our image is up to par. I get it because I often feel that way, especially as someone with bipolar disorder. If I am not paying attention to what I am doing, I can make a post and be happy, then be moody all in thirty minutes.

What’s important is that we pick ourselves up and put ourselves back out there. We have businesses to push and messages to convey. Everyone may not immediately notice, but you will see growth if you stick at it long enough.

The Danger Zone

I know it’s time I make a post or take some kind of action when I see my engagement drop close to the number of followers I have. I consider that to be cutting it close, and I know I need to do something because if my engagement drops below those numbers, it is twice as hard to get them back up again. This is considered a danger zone.

And as for getting back on the wagon and posting again, do not allow your absence to discourage you.

5 Social Media Tips

Here are five tips to get you through.

  1. Rebuke those negative thoughts that are trying to surface and prevent you from showing the world how awesome you are.
  2. Take a deep breath in and let it out slowly, releasing those negative thoughts at the same time.
  3. Pop you sh*t, meaning say whatever you came to say, deliver whatever message you planned to deliver, and do so with confidence. Your input matters.
  4. Hit share and release that little piece of you out into the world.
  5. Make your posts and go about your day. If people comment, try to reply within 15 minutes.

You’ve got this. We all slip up but what’s important is that we pick up the torch and continue on.
