Singer Cristina Rae shares graced the stage and wowed the judges on America’s Got Talent – Season 15 and now she will blow you away with her soulful new single I AM.
Her performance received a standing ovation and high praises from all judges, Heidi Klum chose to use her only Golden Buzzer pick on Cristina. The soulful rock-inspired singer captivated the judges and America leading her to as Judge Howie Mandel stated “The One to Beat” ultimately placing 3rd in the season. She is committed to being a role model for young women and hopes that they will follow their dreams no matter the obstacle. Before becoming a contestant, Cristina experienced homelessness but with persistence, Cristina found her way to the Big Apple, and, before the pandemic, she entered into the Apollo Theater’s amateur night. She took home 1st place this caught the attention of America Got Talent.
What was the spark that led you to release your new single “I Am”?
Honestly, I lost my townhome due to a leak that turned into black mold. The one thing that was truly my own. My aunt suffered a brain aneurysm and went into a coma. My finances started depleting. My mental health was being pressed, I wasn’t feeling my best. It seemed like I had nothing or no one to fill me back up. I only had myself. So I started affirming myself with what I wanted to be, because I didn’t feel these things as my truth, yet.
How has Music helped your mental health and overall health journey?
Music has always been the one thing I was able to trust. I feel powerful when it comes to music. Music makes me forget the dark moments until the song ends of course.
How are you being the change that is removing the stigma of Single parenthood and chasing a dream? What advice would you give to someone unsure about pursuing their dreams?
I’d advise another single parent or anyone for that matter to choose themselves every time. Because the person(s) we are constantly putting first will have to figure something out if we are no longer present without any thoughts about it. So choose you and if choosing causes you to lose some people. They weren’t meant to be there in the first place.
How do you want your new single to be received? What impact are you looking to make?
I want people to feel healing while believing in themselves. I want people to be okay with affirming themselves and not feel ashamed or think that they are being conceited. My song is a healthy and efficient affirmation that is needed now more than ever.
How has your experience on AGT affected your outlook on your goals?
Filming AGT at the start of the pandemic was a task in itself. However, in my experience of being a part of the show, my dreams felt so present and tangible. So close but the pandemic completely changed the world as we know it. The pandemic has made me feel like my dreams are harder to reach. But I realize that’s just a trick of my lower vibrational self. But times do get hard but I know I have a purpose and a gift to share.
What can we expect from you in the future?
Expect to be WOWED. I’ll never be the normal plus-size singer, actress, or dancer. I will always stand out. I will always be the one to go left when everyone else goes right.
