Interview with Sacred Palms (SPRT, Inc.)
Sabrina: How was Sacred Palms formed?
SPRT: Although conceived in the ancestral heart of many global generations past, SPRT Inc. is a “pandemic baby” of sorts: established in autumn 2020 as the product of lovers with enduring warrior spirits who chose deeper intimacy after reflecting upon what truly serves our wellness. Keen to disparities in access to culturally responsible care, mindful of human frailty and mortality, and holding our heads up strong and quickly, we are new with an old soul, ready to continue the work.
Sabrina: Could you explain HeartwoRx” (available through Sacred Palms)?
SPRT: HeartwoRx™ is both a remembering and an honorable forward movement, a humble heart posture and elevated mindset at the core of our team members’ lifestyles and any modality we offer. More specifically, it is a commitment “to explicate, honor and share pan-Afrikan history (represented via the medical abbreviation ‘Hx’) through a practical, womanist approach to building a therapeutic give-and-take (or ‘lub-dub’) of life-affirming artistic, literary, spiritual, and medicinal rhythms designed for us, by us (abbreviated as ‘Rx’).
Sabrina: What oppositions have you encountered within the Black community and why?
SPRT: At times, mention of any affiliation with Christian teachings and faith at large stirs some discomfort and pushback from those whose lives are solely rooted in pan-Afrikan principles, the Black and brown faces of which weren’t whitewashed throughout history. Incidentally, a similar opposition is presented by some affiliates of Christian or any other Abrahamic (e.g. Jewish, Muslim) faith traditions when any mention of ancestors or spirituality aligned with natural cycles is made due to accusatory fear of “pagan” or “witchcraft” activity.
“All SPRT Inc. goods/services are created, conducted with clean hands & heart in accordance with The Most High’s Holy Will for our lives.”
A more recent trend we’re disheartened to witness is division along the lines of foundational Black Americans (FBA) vs. first-generation Americans, Caribbeans, Africans, and the like. Because our team members proudly represent several countries and cultures of experiential gold, we continue to honor the amalgamated wisdom of our traditions and delight in engaging respectful co-education regarding our diverse concerns.
On COVID Recovery
Sabrina: Does Sacred Palms have a therapeutic remedy for those who have experienced and are recovering from COVID?
SPRT: Considering and possibly echoing a form of Tea’s previously mentioned self-care regimen is suggested as a baseline umbrella response best fine-tuned in direct consultation for any individual’s preferences, budget, access to materials, and co-existing needs or ‘dis-eases.’
We’ve found that the severity of the aftermath greatly affects what responses or remedies they can tolerate. For example, how long have they tested negative? Do they know how they acquired it and, if so, does their lifestyle include the same exposure potential? What, if anything, are the current symptoms? Does the person describe or present with symptoms of long COVID? Every person, bodily system, and experience is unique. The same is true of whatever is required to remedy them.
Recommended Daily Routines
Sabrina: What daily regimens or routines do you recommend in 2022?
SPRT: Universal jewels like a clove of raw garlic taken in a tablespoon of raw honey local to your area unless allergic or strictly vegan, staying hydrated with fresh water, a teaspoon of flaxseed oil, fire breaths aka “Breath of Fire” (unless contraindicated), and reducing stress in its most prominent forms (e.g. that may be the nightly news, Instagram, that relationship you want or are used to but isn’t best for you, etc.) do small wonders in protecting our immune systems and overall wellbeing on a regular basis.
Sabrina: How can we learn more about Sacred Palms and HeartwoRx™?
SPRT: We are excited and grateful for the soft launch (readiness of all collateral channels; e.g. social media and apparel sites) we recently hosted on Wednesday, March 2, 2022: followed by a full website launch (including some of the apothecary’s products on Friday, March 18, 2022).
