Trailblazing at the Inaugural Black Media Honors

What is a trailblazer? A TRAILBLAZER is “a pioneer, an innovator, a person willing to take risks, blaze a trail and leave a path for others to follow”. Trailblazers are authentic and help fuel the fire in others. Well, this was certainly the question of the evening, as Swagher Magazine’s Media Personality/Correspondent Brittany Passion (@brittany_passion) interviewed the top trailblazers in media, on the red carpet this past weekend.

On Sunday August 22, 2021, Swagher Magazine had the honor of attending the Inaugural Black Media Honors and interviewing some of the media industry’s top professionals. The Black Media Honors was founded by Stephanie Davis, CEO of Empower Media Group and it aims to celebrate media leaders in the areas of journalism, public relations, social media, mass communication, broadcasting, media personalities and more. It is imperative that these trailblazers receive the recognition they truly deserve.

The Black Media Honors gala, held at Twelve Midtown Conference Center, which will now be aired on Fox Soul, was hosted by actress, Brely Evans (Actress) and Pastor Anthony Murray. It included presenter Dr. Catrina Pullum, Drea Kelly, Christal Jordan, Erica Thomas, Reece Odom, Candiace Bassett, Laura Wilson, Nykidra Robinson, Josiah Riley, J. Fabulous, Raneisha Toombs and more with performances by Ignatious Carmouche, Y’anna Crawley, Christina Bell, Dayvsnn and ended the evening with some good ole Anthony Hamilton.

These honorees have paved the way in the media industry and were recognized for all of their efforts in black media : Karen Civil (Live Civil), Pastor Dr. Jamal Bryant (New Birth Missionary Church), Kimberly Chapman (Sheen Magazine Editor-at-Large), Jeff Johnson (BET, Rickey Smiley Morning Show, NAACP), Randy Fling (Rolling Out), Dr. Rashad Richey (Political Analyst for CBS46, MSNBC, PeachtreeTV, V-103, Rolling Out), Nadia C. Fischer (Publicist and activist), Melissa Ingram (Aspire TV), James Dubose (Fox Soul, Head of Programming & Executive Producer), Karen Wishart (Executive Vice President Urban One) and The Georgia Entertainment Caucus.

Last but not least, congratulations to all of the nominees as well as the 2021 Black Media Honors winners. Some of the winners included are:

  4. Sherrell Valdezloqui (Today’s Purpose Woman)- Media Trailblazer, Editor and National News Site of The Year

  5. Shari’ Nycole (Producer/Radio Personality)- Content Creator of The Year

  6. Supa Cindy ( 99 Jamz Miami Radio Talent)- Best Female Radio Personality

  7. Cherisee Jamison ( The Jamison Agency/ Publicist)- Rising Star/Publicist

  8. Falasha Campbell (Black On Black Media)- Rising Star/Media

  9. David Robinson ( The David Brand/ Entertainment Publicist)- PR Icon of The Year

  10. Vaughn Alvarez ( CR8 Agency/Celebrity Publicist)- Agency of The Year
