What’s New? BMGC’s Find Your Calm Affirmation Cards

Fancy: How would you describe your swagher, what makes Jamie, Jamie?

Jamie: I’m an introvert and loner by nature, but I love the people in my life hard. I’m a bit awkward, and I’m reserved until I get to know you. I love books, nail polish, and crystals (I carry them in my bra most of the time). I’m an empath and a spiritual person. And I’m someone who has big dreams and goals for her life and intends to make them a reality.

Fancy: Tell us a little about Black Mom’s Guide to Calm.

Jamie: Black Mom’s Guide to Calm is a safe space where stressed out women can overcome their overwhelm and find their inner peace and joy. After having my daughter at the end of 2013, I was stressed out, overwhelmed, and frustrated. I felt that way for a few months until I reached a breaking point, and I knew something had to give. Not only did I start journaling more consistently and wrote new affirmations around how I wanted to feel, I also looked for other ways to feel better. I had started doing yoga around that time as well to tone my post-baby body, and I found that it also helped me feel more peaceful and centered. Doing yoga led me to beginning my meditation and mindfulness practices.

Because I had finally found ways to feel calm, peaceful, focused, and joyful, I wanted to share that with Black women; I feel we are a segment of the population that really need tools for lessening/managing stress. So, Black Mom’s Guide to Calm/#Blackmomcalm was born!

Fancy: What inspired your Find Your Calm Affirmation Cards?

Jamie: I love affirmations and have used them for about 10 years now. On #Blackmomcalm’s social media, I post an affirmation every Friday, and last year, I bought my first set of affirmation cards from my coach, Abiola Abrams. After continuously posting my own affirmations, I thought, ‘Why not create your own collection and have them printed?’ I want people (and women in particular) to be able to find their calm and create positive energy in a simple way, no matter where they are.

Fancy: Can you describe a time when you totally lost your calm, and how did you handle it?

Jamie:  Over the summer, my husband and I separated. Although I knew it was coming at some point, the way it happened was a shock. During that time, I was stressed, hurt, frustrated, anxious, and sad. I handled it a few ways (and still do);I did a lot of meditating and journaling. I allowed myself to feel what I felt and to cry. I used my crystals, and whenever I felt myself getting anxious or getting lost in my thoughts, I remembered to breathe deeply. And most importantly, I had to trust the process and where Life was taking me.

Fancy: Where are the cards found?

Jamie: They can be found at
