Which Beauty Bar is Right for You?

If you’re anything like most people, you go to the store for soap and purchase one based on one-of-three things: how the pack looks, how the soap smells, or what you think you need based on what the pack says. I admit, I once purchased soap the same way. In fact, until I knew better, I used the same bar of soap from my face to my toes. I never knew that my face had different needs; even certain body parts had different needs based on my skin. But no worries, friends! If your resolution for the New Year is to take better care of your skin, I’m here to clear some things up for you regarding cleansing your skin.

So, first things first. All soap is NOT the same. The national brands we grew up on in the 1970’s and 1980’s—you know the ones—so pure it floats, and as clean as a whistle. Yeah, you remember! These famous soaps are indeed good at what they were designed to do, BUT they were not designed for your face or for skin sensitivities. The issue with soap is that the chemicals and harsh detergents they are made with are designed to completely rid the body of dirt and oil.  Did you catch that? They get rid of the dirt but they also clean away the oil…including the natural oils our bodies produce to keep our skin moisturized.  They are harsh on our bodies, yes, but even more so on our faces and sensitive areas. Natural, handmade and toxin-free cleansing bars will clean your skin without stripping the skin of its natural oil barrier. These are the products this writing will focus on—beauty bars that nourish, cleanse, and handle specific issues, but can also be used from head-to-toe.

Activated Charcoal Bar – Perfect for detoxing the skin. It deeply cleanses to rid pores of blackheads, clean out any impurities and tighten skin. It also helps shrink large pores for a smoother skin texture. Great for oily skin to pull any excess oil from pores.

Moisturizing Bar – Great for all skin types! The extra moisturizers in this bar aid the skin’s natural oil barrier with nourishing oils like shea butter, cocoa butter, olive oil and jojoba oil. Dry and extra-dry skin already has a hard time keeping its oil at a healthy level, so cleansers with added moisturizers will aid in doing so. Add in healthy water drinking habits also! That will work in conjunction with a moisturizing bar to produce a stable moisture barrier on your skin without pounds and pounds of lotion.

Oatmeal Bar – Oatmeal is the ultimate in soothing itchy, dry and irritated skin. The natural anti-inflammatory properties in oatmeal make it ideal for forming a protective barrier on the skin to soothe and moisturize. It has also been known to calm active eczema flare-ups without irritation or burning. Great for dry, itchy and inflamed skin.

Turmeric Bar – Turmeric soap is formulated to help rid your skin of dark spots and help even-out the skin tone while cleansing and tightening pores due to the antioxidants it contains as well as the natural antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties it has. Great for dull and damaged skin.

Aloe Vera Bar – Excellent choice for inflamed, irritated skin that is bothered by eczema and other skin conditions. It helps retain the moisture in the skin as the natural minerals and antioxidants heal the skin. This makes it also beneficial for clearing surface acne. Great for normal to dry skin.

When looking for the right beauty bar for you, consider natural, handcrafted small businesses first. These will be your soapers that craft artisan cleansing bars in small batches. Small batch soapers will recommend you the best beauty bar from the soaps that they make based on your skin needs. In doing so, you get the right beauty bar for you and help support a small business to continue thriving.
