Author Spotlight: Dr. La’Quita Monley

Dr. La’Quita Monley is the CEO and master personal development coach of LaQuita Monley’s Solutions, where she teaches her clients how to pursue their purpose with a passion for reaching new heights in life and business. Since 2010, La’Quita and her husband Ben have dedicated themselves to evangelism and discipleship. Ben’s military career moved the family from Texas to England, and this transition opened the door for them to begin their ministry on an international level. Living and working outside of the United States enabled the military wife to gain valuable experiences while working with diverse cultures, ideas, and people. The personal development coach would then go on to produce her podcast, La’Quita’s Toolbox, which provided implementable life “tools” that lead to lasting success in life and business.

In 2022, La’Quita rebranded LaQuita’s Toolbox and changed the name to La’Quita Monley’s Solutions while still offering the same speaking and coaching services and continuing La’Quita’s Toolbox Podcast. She also published her first book, Redefining Success: 8 Tools I Used to Develop a Growth Mindset. Redefining Success: 8 Tools I Used to Develop a Growth Mindset helps you to determine who or what has defined success for you and how to take control and define success for yourself. It equips you with practical, implementable tools to help you on life’s journey.

La’Quita’s undeniable zeal for life change is just as personal as it is purposeful. Her deeply-rooted faith and disciplined thought patterns helped her persevere through the hardships of teen pregnancy and postpartum depression, navigate life as a military wife, overcome the unique challenges of living abroad, and rise as a multi-faceted woman of influence. LaQuita’s life’s mission is to guide, motivate, and equip individuals, small businesses, and corporations to soar to greater heights.

Christina: What is your SwagHer? What makes La’Quita, La’Quita?

Dr. La’Quita:  My faith in Christ is my SwagHer. My faith, or should I say it is my intimate relationship with Christ, has allowed me to understand who I am and what I am purposed to do. My faith is the foundation of who I am and everything that I do.

Christina: Please tell the readers a little bit about your book, Redefining Success: 8 Tools I Used to Develop a Growth Mindset.

Dr. La’Quita:  Redefining Success: 8 Tools I Used To Develop A Growth Mindset is available on Amazon. Redefining Success helps you to determine who or what has defined success for you and how to take control and define success for yourself. It equips you with practical, implementable tools to help you on life’s journey.

Christina: What does the word success mean to you?

Dr. La’Quita: Success means “owning my time,” being able to spend quality time with my family on my own terms, no longer having to schedule family time around work, but scheduling work around family time.

Christina: There is a line from your book, “Identity is what anchors us to purpose.” Can you elaborate on that?

Dr. La’Quita: Everything—and I do mean everything—hinges on identity. The compass of our faith aligns with the Holy Spirit to fulfill the Father’s will. Wrapped up in identity is who we are, the purpose of our being, and every God-breathed promise that manifests as our success.

This self-awareness is the filter for our desires. Identity undergirds our values, aspirations, and overall view of what it means to excel in life. Without the revelation of who we were created to be, a huge gulf tends to exist between where we are and what we are called to be, do, and experience. Lacking this inner knowing causes us to get caught up in fantasies and fallacies about who we are and what we want, which sets us up for a trail of disappointments.

Christina: You were very transparent in your book. How uncomfortable did you have to get while writing?

Dr. La’Quita: I had to become very uncomfortable while writing this book. In my writing journey, the biggest challenge that I have faced has been working through unhealed hurts and processing unresolved issues. Because my book was written using my personal life experiences, reliving those as I wrote about them let me know if I had truly healed and moved forward or if I just decided not to deal and keep doing life. In those areas where I need to address unhealed hurts and unresolved issues, I actually had to take the time to acknowledge and process so that I was not writing from a place of brokenness but from a healthy place so that I can add value and tools to help the reader overcome.

Christina: On top of being an author and entrepreneur, you also have a podcast, La’Quita’s Toolbox Podcast. How did you get started with your podcast?

Dr. La’Quita:  I started La’Quita’s Toolbox after spending over two years cohosting a live broadcast with a good friend Victor Johnson. While cohosting the live stream, I developed a desire to start my own podcast.

Christina: You are an army wife; how has traveling due to your husband’s service affected and changed your life?

Dr. La’Quita: I am happy to say that I am now a “retired” Army wife. During my husband’s 24-plus years of active duty service, our family has been blessed to live in multiple states across our great nation and numerous foreign countries. In my opinion, our time traveling this country and foreign nations has been a very positive experience. Living and working outside of the United States has enabled me to gain valuable experiences while working with diverse cultures, ideas, and people.

Christina: What are some tips you can give aspiring self-help or Christian authors?

Dr. La’Quita: I would advise them not to separate business and ministry, buy that I mean just as with ministry, always follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. Prioritize discovering who your ideal client avatar is and laser focus on how to craft your message to meet their needs. Research your avatar and create content that will build the “know, like, and trust” factor with your audience. Be yourself and always add value.

Christina: Is there anything else you would like to add?

Dr. La’Quita: “It is acceptable, necessary, and healthy to redefine and refine your definition of success as often as needed. It has to grow as you grow.” – La’Quita Monley.
