NFL fans are very critical in regards to the recent performance of the CBS lead color analyst Tony Romo, as he is being accused of almost using the N-Word during the live NFL telecast of the AFC Championship game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Cincinnati Bengals.
Prior to his career as an analyst, Tony Romo played the quarterback position collegiately at Eastern Illinois University, where he won the Walter Payton Award for being the top Division I-AA football player back in 2002. He finished his career holding the school and conference record of 85 touchdown passes, but unfortunately, his statistical output wasn’t enough to get him drafted.
Romo would go on to sign with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2003, and three years later, he won the starting job. He was the Cowboys signal caller from 2006 to 2015. During his career as the Dallas Cowboys quarterback, Romo set several team records, and he was a four-time selection to the NFC Pro Bowl squad.
At the conclusion of the 2016 NFL season, Romo retired from the game of professional football and immediately transitioned to the broadcast booth. He was fortunate enough to be paired up with a legend, as he teamed up with play-by-play veteran announcer Jim Nance.
In the beginning, Tony Romo was praised for his work on the NFL telecasts due to the fact that he displayed the ability to predict offensive plays. Unfortunately, Romo has done a complete 180 as he is now criticized for making obvious statements, for repeatedly stating he wasn’t sure what happened on certain plays, and the fans are annoyed by the grunting noises he makes live on-air.
During this past Sunday’s AFC Championship game, Romo gave the fans another reason to judge his performance on the mic. While describing a play that took place in the 4th quarter, some fans believe it sounded like Romo almost used a racial slur.
On the play Romo was describing, Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco caught a screen pass, and he was immediately surrounded by three Bengals defenders. Pacheco was able to break two tackles and run down the sideline to gain additional yardage.
Unfortunately, Romo turned the routine play call into a controversial topic of discussion. “The extra yards, the tough yards, the finish on the play. Right there, you got three Ni, you talked about this is the best-tackling team.”
Whatever Romo was about to say, he tried to correct it, but the slip-up instantly caught the attention of fans on social media. They published posts in regards to their opinions of Tony Romo being a racist because they feel confident that Romo almost made the statement, “you got three n*ggas.”
It is unclear if the 42-year-old Tony Romo was going to use the N-Word, but some fans are 100% confident that it sounded like he was about to say it. Since he didn’t completely verbalize it, we can only assume what his intentions were, but it would be in Romo’s best interest to step up and make a public statement to clear up this controversial situation.
