Ice Cube’s BIG3 Basketball League Makes a Stop In Baltimore

On Saturday, June 29th, the 3-on-3 professional basketball league known as the BIG3 played out the third week of the 2024 schedule at the CFG Bank Arena in Baltimore, Maryland.

Founded in 2017 by rapper/actor/film director Ice Cube and entertainment executive Jeff Kwatinetz, the BIG3 is a 12-team league featuring basketball players with experience in college, international play, and the NBA.

In addition to the normal two-point and three-point buckets, the BIG3 also features a four-point shot. Unlike the traditional organized basketball game, the BIG3 games are played on half-court rather than a full 94-foot court.

The contest doesn’t utilize a game clock and doesn’t consist of halves or quarters. Once a team reaches the 25-point mark, the game goes to halftime.The contest is won by the first team to reach a total of 50 points.

Since the league has yet to incorporate home markets, the BIG3 teams travel to different cities each week. For the six-game schedule slated for the third week of the season, all the action took place at the CFG Bank Arena in Baltimore.

Bivouac (3-0) got the action started, remaining undefeated by beating Headed Monsters (1-2) 51-45. Corey Brewer led the way for Bivouac, scoring 14 points and 6 rebounds.

In Game 2, brothers Jeremy and Jannero Pargo both scored 20 points as their team the Triplets (2-1) defeated Power (1-2) by the score of 51-30. In game 3 Chris Johnson scored 17 points as he led Ghost Ballers (2-1) to a 51-47 victory over the Ball Hogs (1-2).

During halftime and in-between games, fans were entertained by a variety of activities. During one of the intermissions, Mayor Brandon Scott battled a ouple of citizens from the city of Baltimore when he participated in the popular four-point, shooting contest. 

During another intermission former Sacramento Kings guard and BIG3 alum Mike Bibby also participated in the four point shooting contest. The entertainment was capped off by the SlamBall dunk team and a musical performance by Ice Cube.

In other action that took place on the court, Kevin Murphy scored 19 points as his team Tri-State (2-1) defeated the Killer 3’s by the score of 50-34. The defending champion Enemies (3-0) remained undefeated as Jordan Crawford led the way with 16 points.

The Enemies beat the Aliens by the score of 51-45. In the final game of the evening, Michael Beasley contributed 22 points as 3’s Company (2-1) handed Trilogy (0-3) their third consecutive loss, by the score of 50-44.

If you’re looking for an event that’s competitive, exciting, entertaining, and family-friendly, BIG3 basketball is where it’s at. This upcoming Sunday, July 7th, the BIG3 scheduled games will take place at the Prudential Center in Newark New Jersey.
