Roe vs. Wade: The Precedence of it All

Last week a draft suggesting that the Supreme Court will be overturning Roe vs. Wade this summer was “leaked.” The leak came as a surprise because everything that the government wants to keep a secret stays a secret, but I digress. If you are anything like me, you only knew that Roe vs. Wade as the Abortion Act. I never knew the meat and potatoes of it all, but I got curious.

Roe vs. Wade was a case where a white woman from Dallas was pregnant with her 3rd child. Said woman was named Jane Roe. The attorney’s were actually soliciting for the right client to be the face of this case. Jane Roe, was white, young, pregnant and was able to slide through due to a loophole. Attorney’s were not allowed to directly solicit clients without having a previous relationship with them. Since this was a public interest case, she slid on through. A little background, Jane Roe was not the initial client for the attorneys.

The clients that got the ball rolling was a married couple who didn’t want to abstain from sex, but also didn’t want to have kids due to the wife’s medical history. They didn’t think the case would hold. That is why Jane Roe was perfect. Jane Roe also had two other kids that she was not taking care of and didn’t want to have this third child. This case got all the way to the Supreme Court where they ruled that women have a fundamental right to choose whether to have an abortion without excessive government restriction. They also struck down Texas’ abortion ban.

As a Christian, I am supposed to say, no to abortion. I am supposed to say, this is not right and we must end it. However, as a Christian, I stand and say, I am pro-choice. I have never been pregnant, and never been faced with having to make this decision. I do know women who have for many different reasons. It is my belief that Roe vs. Wade is a smoke mirror for things that they don’t want us to pay attention to right now. How is an official government draft leaked? Seriously? The question is what is the government trying to hide or do.

The Governor of Texas has already shown his hand. He has stated that if Roe vs. Wade is overturned, he can possibly get a law overturned that states that ALL students can get a free education in Texas. Governor Abbott states that it is a burden to educate some of the students. The students that he speak of are the undocumented children, who’s parents come to America for a better life for them and their children. However, the government did not bat an eye and ushered in Ukrainian citizens. America, you are showing your racism again. This is just one of the things I have seen come from the Roe vs. Wade leak.

My opinion is as such, I believe it is your choice and you have to deal with your God if you decide to have an abortion. I am pro-choice and no one should be able to tell me what I can do with my body. At the present moment there is a shortage of baby food. Can the government figure that out while they are concerned about a medical procedure that these women are paying for. Almost every month a baby is found in a dumpster or a parent is killing their child.

Children are in the foster care system because their parents had to give them up. I don’t believe these babies and children are mistakes, but I do think that we will hear more cases of people killing themselves trying to terminate a pregnancy. If this is overturned, they will push for birth control to not be covered under insurance. Some, like myself, use birth control for other measures besides not getting pregnant. This is not just about abortion, but a right to privacy.

Don’t take your eyes off Roe vs. Wade, but look for the things they are hiding in the dark. Remember Roe vs. Wade set a precedent and if overturned so many other things can be overturned. They are trying to move us into the Handmaid’s Tale era.
