The Power of Servanthood

Dr. Myles Munroe said, “The greatest discovery in life is self-discovery. Until you find yourself, you will always be someone else. Become yourself.” In addition, Dr. Oscar J. Nelson Dowdell-Underwood stated, “Self-discovery is not understood until you serve. It is through serving that one discovers the greatness GOD placed within.”

The power of servanthood is epitomized in the life of Dr. Oscar J. Nelson Dowdell-Underwood. His life is one of life-long serving, using his gifts, anointings, and teachings to empower others. He is a pastor, master educator, activist, author, motivational speaker, and educational consultant. He is also Affectionately known as the “Father of Possibility Education” and “The Father of Possiblelogy” Dr. Nelson-Dowdell-Underwood is committed to serving his life to helping individuals to self-discover who GOD created them to be as well as discover their “possibleness” in Christ in order to make a difference and pass hope to humanity. Dr. Nelson Dowdell-Underwood is committed to serving his life for the Advancement of the Kingdom of GOD.

Dr. Nelson Dowdell-Underwood resides in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He is the founder and Senior Pastor of The Destiny Dome Embassy at Cathedral of Praise Ministries International in Fort Wayne, Indiana; founder and Superintendent of Cornerstone Christian College Preparatory Day and High School International (C-Prep) and founder and President of Cornerstone Christian Bible College International-Global which are located in Ft. Wayne, Indiana as well. Dr. Nelson Dowdell-Underwood has authored over 35 books, including “I Am Possible,” “Assassination of Human Potential,” “Bumblebees Can Fly Book I & II,” and his latest book, “Possibilized! Coming Alive On The Inside: It’s Time to Become Who GOD Said You Are!”

Dr. Nelson Dowdell-Underwood’s compassionate commitment and dedication to serving humanity are documented in history. In 1982, he left a successful career in suburban education to become Principal at Ralph J. Bunche Elementary School in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Bunche Elementary was a low-income, 98-percent African-American, inner-city school. Within two years after implementing “The Underwood Model,” the students’ test scores rose to unprecedented heights at every grade level. Every grade level had successful scores for the first time in the school’s history. In 1990, he left his position as Principal of Ralph J. Bunche Elementary to start the first Christian College Preparatory School in Indiana, known as Cornerstone Christian College Prep Day and High School International (C-Prep) in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

As the founder, headmaster, and superintendent of this school, Dr. Nelson Dowdell-Underwood built the school based on the principles of GOD and the belief that every student can learn and succeed. Additionally, C-Prep aims to unlock the deepest potential of all students, show them the endless possibilities within themselves, and encourage them to see themselves as global leaders who possess the abilities and capabilities to solve problems in the world through serving. Having this belief will give them a cutting-edge advantage in society, as they understand that true success is serving God and others by spreading hope, as modeled by Dr. Oscar J. Nelson Dowdell-Underwood.   

With his dedication, commitment, and servanthood, Dr. Nelson Dowdell-Underwood has received many honors, achievements, and recognitions, including being named the first African American Indiana Teacher of the Year and a National Teacher of the Year nominee in 1977, as well as being named Indiana State Businessman of the Year in 1998. Dr. Nelson Dowdell-Underwood also testified before the United States Congressional Committee on Small Businesses and received the Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction Award from the National Society of High School Scholars in 2018.

Moreover, as the “Father of Possibility Education Awareness” and “The Father of Possibleology,” his life reflects true servanthood in the classroom, the church, or any endeavors with Dr. Nelson Dowdell-Underwood. Knowing Dr. Oscar Nelson Dowdell-Underwood is to understand what servanthood means. Like his spiritual father, Dr. Myles Munroe, Dr. Nelson Dowdell-Underwood’s gift to serve has paved the way for so many around the world to use their gifts to serve humanity and advance the Kingdom of GOD. As a pastor, leader, and educator, he teaches students and adults that success is about passing hope to humanity through servanthood to reflect GOD’s Kingdom. Dr. Nelson Dowdell-Underwood’s life, works, and accomplishments demonstrate his commitment to GOD, the Kingdom of GOD, and serving humanity by passing hope around.
