Want to know a secret yoga benefit that I discovered?
If you are like me and don’t like attention while working out, yoga might be the exercise regimen for you. Not only does it improve flexibility and reduce stress, but it is also an activity where you can worry least about being seen.
I’m a pretty confident woman, but I cannot stand having people watch me while working out. Now, I must admit I am very uncoordinated, and it takes me a while to process patterns and routines. So, I try to be strategic about where I am positioned in the space. However, you don’t have to worry about people watching you because you’re usually in some weird position or your flow state.
Yoga positions can get pretty weird, and we twist, turn, and manipulate our bodies. It’s how we stretch out to stretch out tension problems in our bodies. Therefore, we are usually in some weird, twisted-up position where we have a limited view. Even in poses like warrior poses, we are too busy looking up at our hands, or in other positions, we are following our thumbs.
Then there’s the fact you are in your flow state. This mental state, often described as being “in the zone,” occurs when you are fully immersed in an activity with energized focus and enjoyment. It’s like you are present, but you are locked in on your breathing and what your body tells you. And honestly, sometimes it feels so bittersweet like it hurts, but it also feels so good. Occasionally, you may hear an “ooooh,” “ah,” or moan. Don’t let the playlist be fire; you can really zone out.
So, if working out is one area of your life that you do not want to be visible, try yoga. Of course, the instructor will still be able to see you, but that is a good thing. A good instructor walks around and assists you with poses. You should accept their help if you are serious about your goal of trying yoga. Personally, I’ll be the one in class asking for help aloud, but that is just me. Anyway, I hope this helps get you moving.
