SwagHer Spotlight: Danielle Nekole Is Creating Space for Black Beauty to Be Seen

Danielle Nekole, beauty and lifestyle creator and founder of The Black Beauty Network

For Danielle Nekole, visibility is about more than showing up on a screen. It is about creating spaces where Black creatives, beauty professionals, entrepreneurs, and emerging voices can be seen, celebrated, and connected to opportunities.

A beauty and lifestyle content creator, makeup artist, storyteller, content and experience curator, and community builder, Nekole is also the founder of The Black Beauty Network, a media and community platform focused on amplifying Black voices and strengthening connections within the beauty industry.

Her own platform began with makeup. Sharing beauty looks and tutorials online gave Nekole an outlet for her creativity, but as she evolved, so did her content. Today, she also shares plus-size fashion, lifestyle, confidence, mental wellness, and encouragement while drawing from her experiences as a Black woman and plus-size creator.

That evolution eventually inspired something bigger.

After recognizing that talented Black creators, beauty professionals, entrepreneurs, and industry leaders were not always receiving the visibility or access they deserved, Nekole founded The Black Beauty Network. The platform is designed to celebrate Black beauty, share resources, amplify voices, and foster collaboration.

Now, she is expanding that mission through in-person experiences, including BeauTEA & Business, which brings together beauty, entrepreneurship, education, networking, and conversation.

In this SwagHer Spotlight, Nekole discusses authenticity in the age of social media, plus-size representation, why she created The Black Beauty Network, and what it means to take up space while helping other women do the same.

Fancy: Your journey began with makeup and sharing your creativity online, but your platform has since expanded into beauty, fashion, lifestyle, confidence, and wellness. How has your content evolved as you have evolved personally?

Danielle Nekole: My content has grown with me. Makeup was where I first found my voice and built my confidence, but as I evolved, I realized that I had so much more to share. I began opening up about fashion, wellness, body confidence, lifestyle, and the real experiences that have shaped me as a woman.

My platform is no longer just about what I create. It is also about who I am becoming. I want my audience to see the creativity, but I also want them to see the growth, vulnerability, joy, and determination behind it.

Fancy: Social media often rewards trends and performance. How do you remain true to yourself and your voice while still creating content that is engaging and keeps your audience interested?

Danielle Nekole: I remind myself that trends may bring attention, but authenticity builds community. I pay attention to what is happening online, but I do not feel pressured to participate in everything. If a trend does not align with my personality, values, or audience, I leave it alone.

I focus on creating content that feels natural to me and speaks to the people who have chosen to follow my journey. My audience connects with me because I am honest, creative, and willing to show up as my full self. I never want to lose that connection by performing a version of myself that is not real.

Fancy: Representation is a major part of your work, particularly as a Black woman and plus-size creator. What do you want women to feel when they see themselves reflected in your content?

Danielle Nekole: I want women to feel seen, celebrated, and reminded that they are worthy right now. They do not have to lose weight, change their features, shrink themselves, or wait for permission to feel beautiful and confident.

As a Black woman and a plus-size creator, I understand how powerful it is to finally see someone who looks like you taking up space without apologizing. I want my content to give other women the freedom to do the same.

If someone sees me and feels inspired to wear the outfit, try the makeup, pursue the opportunity, or simply believe in herself a little more, then I have accomplished something meaningful.

Fancy: What inspired you to create The Black Beauty Network, and what did you feel was missing in the beauty industry or creator space that you wanted the network to provide?

Danielle Nekole: I created The Black Beauty Network because I saw a need for a platform that intentionally celebrates, connects, and creates opportunities for Black beauty professionals, creators, entrepreneurs, and innovators. There are so many talented people doing incredible work who are often overlooked because they do not have a large following, major connections, or access to certain rooms.

I wanted to build something rooted in visibility, community, and no gatekeeping. The Black Beauty Network provides a place where people can discover new talent, share knowledge, build genuine relationships, and feel recognized for the value they bring to the industry.

We celebrate established leaders while also making space for emerging voices that deserve to be seen.

Fancy: You are now bringing people together through in-person experiences like BeauTEA & Business. What can attendees expect from the event, and why was it important for you to combine beauty, business, education, and genuine connection in one space?

Danielle Nekole: BeauTEA & Business is an elevated afternoon experience where beauty, education, entrepreneurship, and genuine connection come together. Attendees can expect dynamic panel conversations, valuable business insight, tea education and tasting, delicious treats, networking, giveaways, and an atmosphere designed to help them feel inspired and poured into.

It was important for me to create more than another networking event where people simply exchange business cards and leave. I wanted to build a space where people could sit down, learn from one another, have meaningful conversations, and develop relationships that could continue beyond the event.

Beauty may bring us into the room, but knowledge, collaboration, and community are what will help us grow once we are there.

Fancy: What’s your SwagHer? How do you show up in the world?

Danielle Nekole: My SwagHer is my confidence, creativity, resilience, and the way I choose to take up space as my full self. I show up boldly, authentically, and with purpose. I am not afraid to be glamorous, vulnerable, ambitious, faith-filled, or a work in progress. Every version of me belongs in the room.

I also show up with a desire to bring other people with me. My confidence is not about believing that I am better than anyone else. It is about knowing who I am, recognizing what I carry, and using my voice and platform to help other women recognize that same power within themselves.
