Baton Rouge City Constable Terrica Williams is continuing her commitment to local children and families by hosting her annual Baton Rouge school supply giveaway on Sunday, August 2, 2026.
Beginning at 2 p.m. at IBEW Local Union 995, the community event will provide free school supplies to children preparing to return to the classroom. Children must be present to receive supplies.
The annual Baton Rouge school supply giveaway is designed to ease some of the financial pressure associated with back-to-school shopping while ensuring students have the essential materials they need to begin the academic year prepared, encouraged, and confident.
Supporting Baton Rouge Students and Families
For Constable Williams, the giveaway represents more than distributing notebooks, pencils, and backpacks. It is part of a year-round commitment to supporting young people throughout East Baton Rouge Parish.
“Serving this community is not something I do only when school starts or during the holidays. It is a commitment I make all year long,” Williams said. “Whether we are mentoring young people, hosting community events, or helping families through difficult times, my goal is always the same. I want people to know they have someone who cares and a community that is behind them.”
Williams has served as Baton Rouge City Constable since 2019 after being elected in December 2018. Throughout her tenure, she has led and supported mentorship programs, holiday assistance events, youth outreach initiatives, and other programs focused on strengthening families and creating opportunities for children.
“The school supply giveaway is one more way we can help children start the school year with confidence and give parents a little extra support,” she said.

Promoting Gun Safety and Protecting Children
This year’s Baton Rouge school supply giveaway will also include an important conversation about gun safety and the steps families can take to protect children.
According to information provided by Williams, East Baton Rouge Parish has lost 83 juveniles to gun violence over the past six years, including 11 during the first half of 2026.
“Those numbers remind us that we all have a responsibility to protect our children,” Williams said.
Families attending the event will receive information about safe firearm storage. Organizers will also distribute free gun locks to parents and host a gun safety presentation.
“We will be talking with families about safe firearm storage, providing free gun locks for parents, and hosting a gun safety presentation because one simple conversation or one simple precaution can save a child’s life,” Williams explained.
Community Partners Make the Giveaway Possible
The event is made possible through the support of several businesses, labor organizations, churches, and community groups.
Participating partners include IBEW Local 995, LIUNA Local 99, Walmart, JDIC Properties, Louisiana Fleet Services, Beta Omega Phi Fraternity, Inc., Beta Psi Sigma Youth Division, Capital Missionary Baptist Church, and Manasseh Law Firm.
“I am grateful to our sponsors, volunteers, and community partners who continue to support these efforts,” Williams said. “When we come together, we can give our children the tools they need to succeed, both in the classroom and in life.”
Through leadership rooted in service, prevention, and community collaboration, Constable Terrica Williams continues to demonstrate the power of Black women using their positions to advocate for families and create meaningful change.
