Life happens. Like a rollercoaster ride, life is full of ups and downs and occasionally you get thrown for a loop. As scary as that sounds, when it comes to life think about how long the lines are at the biggest, scariest of rollercoasters. Those lined up know that there could be danger involved. Their fear is often palpable, but still, they stand in line for minutes, sometimes hours, just to go on that crazy ride. It’s kind of like falling in love, but I digress. Life happens and it doesn’t always happen the way we wish it would, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get up, brush ourselves off, and bounce back. We can’t avoid adversity; it’s a part of life and we all face and react to it differently. Here at Stronger Than My Struggles, we pride ourselves on focusing on and exhibiting strength over adversity. We’ve compiled a short list of ways you can practice strength in the face adversity. Check it out:
- Meditation is a great way to bring focus to your thoughts and life. The mind can be a very dangerous place to get lost in. When life gets stressful, it’s good for the mind, body, and spirit to slow down and reflect or focus. There are different styles of mediation and no set time limit for how much time goes into each session. Meditation gives you the opportunity to quiet your thoughts, steady your breathing, and be still when the world is going crazy around you.
- Seek support. It’s not easy to ask for help when we feel we’re hitting rock bottom, but it’s necessary especially in today’s society. The internet allows us to mask our true situations and feelings too neatly. When you censor your life, struggles, and pain for others, they tend to think you don’t have them. We’re all human and we need help sometimes, whether it’s an ear, physical help, emotional help, or even financial help. You must not be afraid to ask for what you need to get by. As someone who spent over 7 years in outpatient mental health therapy, I can tell you that asking for help was one of the best things I ever did.
- Keep a Journal. I cannot stress the importance of journaling regularly. Journaling is good for the mind, body, and soul. When we journal regularly, it gives us the opportunity to reflect on our relationships, daily routines and habits, life circumstances, and more. When life happens, we tend to process it with our emotions first and logic second. Often times when writing in our journals, we find that the way something emotionally affected us is not just directly correlated to the experience we’re journaling about, but also triggers emotions relating to previous situations. Journaling is a great way of processing your thoughts, marking the progress of your goals, and keeping track of life highlights.
