7 Questions to Ask Yourself and Better Handle Conflict

Greetings,

Happy Monday! I know I have been MIA, but I have been putting a lot of time into restructuring and correcting my business affairs and focusing on strengthening my team. Yes, I finally have a solid core/ BTS team as I call them. Anyway, I wanted to share a little about what I’ve been learning about how to handle conflict this year, as I have committed myself to facing things head on instead of putting them off or avoiding them.

Not everyone is born with thick skin, and not everyone wants to possess it. For me personally, that would require I take on another persona or build a shield around myself to avoid being hurt. I’m a sensitive person, and I am aware of that. I’ve accepted it… but the last thing I need is to be overreacting to everything. Not everything deserves my attention, yet my predisposition can cause me to hold onto things for too long, including my anger. For this reason, I have also found ways to check myself before overreacting and to better handle conflict with the seven questions below.

  1. Why is this happening?

Review how this situation came about.

  1. What am I to learn from this?

There could be a lesson in the midst of all of this.

  1. Why does this bother me so?

I remember reading in Louise Hay’s You Can Heal Your Life, that sometimes we may be bothered by people who we see the negative parts of ourselves within. So sometimes that person that works your nerves, but you can’t say why exactly. is actually displaying the negative traits and/or weaknesses we (ourselves) possess but do not care for.

  1. Do I have a right to be upset or angry?

Should I be taking ownership in some of the problem?

  1. Am I being selfish?

Am I making this about me and ignoring how the other person may be feeling. Did I give any thought to their reasoning behind things?

  1. What would the mature me do?

Yes, I have to go here sometimes, because I feel like part of “adulting” is realizing some hard truths and doing what needs to be done, regardless of how I may feel.

  1. Are my actions adding fuel to the fire or would they bring about peace and harmony?

Is your next move going to better this situation or resolve it or are you about to do something crazy out of spite?
Now of course, I am not a conflict specialist or anything, but I have found these questions to work for me and rethink situations. I thought I would pass them along in case they may help someone else. I would love to know if you all have further questions or suggestions to add to this.

Until next time….peace and blessings.
