Are you preparing to transition from employee to employer or boss? Before you quit your 9-5 in haste, try these steps to quitting.
- Monitor your spending. Use only your debit card for 3 weeks and monitor your spending line by line, purchase by purchase. You need to know what you spend money on and how much money you spend.
- Cut it. All of it. You don’t need all of those subscription services (Amazon Prime, Kindle, Apple Music, Netflix, Hulu) cut them. Cable, expensive cell service and rental phones? Cut them, too. Any recurring bills that aren’t necessities need to be cut, reduced, or put into your new budget.
- Budget, entrepreneur style. Now that you know what you spend and have discarded extra bills you can come up with a survival number.
- Divide it by 30 or 26. Entrepreneurs that are just starting out don’t get weekends off. How much money do you need to earn per day to live? (Example: If your magic number was 2,500. 2,500/30= 83.34 This business owner would need to make $83.34 per day to support his lifestyle}
- Ensure that you have a cushion saved that you feel comfortable with. This could be 6, 12 or 18 months’ worth of monthly expenses.
- Ensure that you are turning a profit with your business before turning in that 2-week notice. Operate your business on the side and build clientele and expertise before leaving your position.
- Have a positive mindset about your job. Your job can be your biggest asset in building your business. Be encouraged to go to work and earn money to invest in your business.
- Pick your quit date. Ah, the power of manifestation. Put your date discreetly in different places. 12/12 on your mirror, the home screen of your cell phone, a sticky note at work, stick one to the air freshener in your car. Let this date work on your subconscious as you put in the elbow grease.
