A Letter to My Younger Self -You Are a Survivor Who Will Help Many with Your Story
Dear Young Decoda,
I write you this letter as I sit around the table, reading about so many things that have been happening around the world. I have been trying my best to understand it, but I just can’t. Be safe, be careful, follow your heart and your dreams.
I know that you are very stubborn and that you like to do your own thing but, it is better to listen to a wiser person, and you will never encounter some of the things that are out there in this world. Your future is so bright, and you are such an adorable person with a heart of gold, and I want you to know. Don’t ever let anyone change who you are and no matter what you have been through, keep your head high and maintain your sanity and wait for the right one to love you.
Your aunties are doing such a great job, sending you to private schools, continue making them and yourself proud as an “A†student. They have taken up the responsibilities of your mom, after they killed her at such a young age, and I know that it is not easy especially that your dad is not around to play the father figure role, but many others have been in your position, but somehow, they never let that get in their way; they excelled and did exceptionally well. You are beautiful, kind-hearted, and friendly, and you are such a hard-working individual who always sees things to the end. Yet when things don’t go the way you had planned, you get frustrated and down but now you have got to change that attitude and mindset. When you find yourself in a position like that, stay FOCUS on WHY you started in the beginning and what you wanted out of all of it, and one day everything will all make sense to you. Sometimes, you don’t have to make your own mistakes to learn from them, but you can always learn from someone else’s.
Growing up as such a talented young lady who already knows what she wants in life, don’t follow anyone that’s going to lead you off course, distract you, and cause you to fail, then later leave you in the end. You need to also keep your circle small and do not go trusting everyone. Forget the boys and focus on your education because at the end, that is all that you will have left. Anyone that wants to come and sweet talk you, tell them you are not ready for those kinds of things and that you have a long way to go. When the time is right, then the right person will come. You need to also bear in mind that not everyone is lucky enough to escape without a trace, so leave man for last, and you will be happier than you ever thought. Also, please consult someone who you can trust before you get into anything that is not of God or rightfully yours. Lastly, never forget “that a woman is like a tea bag, you never know how strong she is until she gets in hot water.â€
