Late last month, the Balanced Black Girl Podcast relaunched as the She’s So Lucky Podcast, which may have come as a surprise to many, including me. When it first appeared on my podcast list, I thought, “What is this?” because I didn’t recall ever adding it. But I’m glad I tuned in and realized it was Les Alfred.
Of course, I naturally wondered what inspired her rebrand, but I didn’t have to wonder for long as Les broke it all down in the first episode of She’s So Lucky. She explained that the conversations she had with guests on Balanced Black Girl and the direct messages she received were often heavy topics that weighed on her mental health, taking a toll. She decided to change things up and be intentional about having more positive, yet just as deep, discussions with guests.
“I’m so grateful to be seen as a safe person for people; I also realize that I don’t have the capacity to be that person for like thousands of people– nor do I have the credentials nor do I have a strong enough support system to be able to handle the things that I’m experiencing in my life and carry that much for other people too,” Les stated in the first episode entitled, “[Solo] A New Chapter: Creating Our Own Luck”.
So far, guests have included:
- Best-selling author Tia Williams
- Love is Blind personality/ pilates instructor/app creator, Raven Ross, Actress/singer/TV personality Keke Palmer
- Women’s tennis champion Sloane Stephens
- Master wellbeing educator, author, host of The Deeply Well Podcast, and renowned energy healer Devi Brown
The podcast hostess also said she repeatedly saw the word “lucky” or things that symbolize luck, like four-leaf clovers, while trying to come up with a name for the show.
I’m still catching up on episodes, but I’ve enjoyed the ones I’ve listened to so far, and I commend Les for advocating for her mental health.
You can find the She’s So Lucky Podcast on all major podcast platforms, including Audible, or you can watch it on YouTube.
