Jason Mitchell was arrested in Mississippi on drug and weapons charges. Harrison County court records show the troubled actor is facing two felony charges for possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute. The controlled substances he had in his possession were marijuana and ecstasy. The weapons on his person included a Glock 19 and a mini Draco AK-47 semi-automatic.
A native of New Orleans, Louisiana, Mitchell was introduced to the mainstream in 2011 as a 7-Eleven cashier in the film ‘Texas Killing Fields’. He would go on to land roles in the films ‘Dragon Eyes’, and ‘Broken City’. Jason Mitchell’s breakthrough performance came in 2015 as he played the iconic rapper Eazy- E, in the biopic ‘Straight Outta Compton’. The movie illustrated the rise and fall of the gangsta rap group N.W.A. The biopic was a huge success as its box office numbers exceeded the $200 million dollar mark.
In 2016, ‘Straight Outta Compton’ won the BET Award for Best Movie and the MTV Award for Best True Story. The ‘Straight Outta Compton’ film took Jason Mitchell’s acting career to another level. In 2018 he landed the role of Brandon Johnson in the Showtime network drama series ‘The Chi’. Produced by Lena Waithe and Rapper/Actor Common, The Chi is a show that depicts the challenges of living life on the south side of Chicago.
Jason Mitchell’s acting career was on cruise control until it hit an unexpected bump in the road. He was terminated from the production of ‘The Chi’ in May of 2019 when his co-star Tiffany Boone accused him of sexual misconduct. The 33-year-old actor suffered a major setback, but he showed the potential to bounce back from the negative situation.
