In this edition of SwagHer Spotlight, Chinyere shares how unexpected adversity led her to become an author, why amplifying marginalized voices is central to her mission, and what being “unstoppable” truly means.
SwagHer: As a first-generation Nigerian American with a background in criminal justice, homeland security, and public service, what first inspired your passion for justice and serving your community?
Chinyere M. Udeh: Growing up in Nigeria, my fascination with justice and serving the community began with watching TV shows like Law & Order and Military Rescue Mission, inspiring me to pursue a career in the American justice system to deliver justice to the unjust.
SwagHer: You’ve built a career in security and analysis while also becoming a published author and entrepreneur. How have those two worlds influenced one another throughout your journey?
Chinyere: I have achieved a balance between my day job and creative passion. Professionally, I work in security and have developed strong report-writing skills. Outside of work, I am an accomplished author with a unique storytelling ability. I adapt my writing style to suit my current role.
SwagHer: You have written and published more than 16 books. What inspired you to begin writing, and what stories or messages do you feel most called to share through your work?
Chinyere: My writing career, I often say, was not premeditated. It began serendipitously in 2019 as I endeavored to vindicate my ability to read, write, and speak English following a Maryland state doctor’s fraudulent medical report that cost me my job in the correctional sector.
SwagHer: Through All Martha’s Writers LLC, you’re helping other authors bring their stories to life. What motivated you to launch the company, and what impact do you hope it has on aspiring writers?
Chinyere: My motivation stems from a desire to amplify marginalized voices globally through writing, providing a platform for everyday people to share their stories without fear of judgment or misunderstanding. I hope All Martha’s Writers LLC inspires aspiring authors and writers to believe they can make a significant impact through their writing and that impossibility does not exist. Furthermore, I hope they understand that their stories and voices are valued and matter.

SwagHer: Many of your books explore themes of justice, social issues, and resilience. Why are those topics important to you, and what conversations do you hope your work sparks among readers?
Chinyere: The importance of these topics lies in their portrayal of the extremes of human nature and the impact of external factors on human tribulations. Through my books, I wish to convey to readers that even in darkness, light exists, and overcoming adversity can lead to greater strength.
SwagHer: You’ve successfully balanced a demanding professional career while building a business and writing multiple books. What advice would you give to women who are trying to pursue more than one passion at a time?
Chinyere: My recommendation would be to take their time, bearing in mind that great things take time, just as Rome wasn’t built in a day. The fact that you have the desire to pursue it is a winning streak in itself. Lastly, as we all prioritize what matters, try to allocate time for your passion.
SwagHer: Looking back on your journey so far, what has been one of the most rewarding moments that reminded you you were walking in your purpose?
Chinyere: One of the most fulfilling experiences that reaffirmed my alignment with my purpose occurred in November 2019, when I stood firm against having my voice silenced by oppression, manipulation, abuse of power, intimidation, retaliation, victimization, dehumanization, and discrimination. This act of resilience gave rise to my inaugural publication, Corruption in the Division of Corrections Volume I, and catalyzed a transformative journey of self-reinvention, empowering me to embody my divine purpose.
SwagHer: SwagHer is all about confidence, authenticity, and owning your story. How do you define your SwagHer, and what makes Chinyere M. Udeh unapologetically herself?
Chinyere: I am unstoppable.
