Crystal Knox is a wife, mom of five, caregiver of four, and author. She and her husband are the owners of Unique Favor Landscaping, LLC and the nonprofit organization, Unique Favor, LLC. Crystal grew up without her mother or her father, and before these accomplishments, she often found herself on the wrong side of the law and was later convicted of a felony charge that would change her life forever. Crystal now spends her time righting her wrongs. She uses her nonprofit to give back to the less fortunate and to bless others in need. She has also written a book that elaborates on the ugly truth and betrayals of her life that led her down a path that she now ministers to younger girls to avoid. Last year we featured Crystal as a Wednesday Wonder Woman, and today we are excited to feature her as an Author Spotlight.
Fancy: So the last time we talked, you were preparing for an event with your nonprofit organization, Unique Favor LLC, and now you have released a book, “Dirty Laundry: The Stains of My Lifeâ€. Tell us about the book and what inspired it. Where did the laundry theme come from?
Crystal: The book was written initially for my healing, because I’ve been through so much. I also had writing a book in the back of my mind for as far back as I can remember, but I doubted myself and put it off often. Then I decided to share some of my testimony with my FB friends a year ago, and I got a lot of feedback from people that had gone through similar things. Many of them told me I should write a book, so I took that as confirmation and began writing. The theme basically came about, because in this book I’m very transparent about delicate parts of my life and I go into detail. There has always been the rumors and speculation so I figured I’d “air my dirty laundry†to first heal me and get over the past betrayal and heartache done to me and caused by me, and then give inspiration and hope to others.

Fancy: What do you want readers to take from your book?
Crystal: I want my readers to be able to understand that no matter how hurt or broken you think you are, and no matter what you’ve gone through in life, you are necessary. Everything that has happened and is happening is necessary, and even though it may not feel good, it’s ultimately for a greater good!
Fancy: How difficult was it to share your story, and how did you know when you were ready to do so?
Crystal: It was mentally and emotionally difficult because I’ve never done it before but I had to write about things that I had prayed so hard to forget. I knew I was ready when I accepted the fact that my story could heal or prevent someone else from experiencing the same. Also the fact that in order to move forward, I had to release the past motivated me. Â
Fancy: From my talks with other authors, I know that sometimes authors must take family members and loved ones into consideration before deciding to publish. Did you struggle with that, and if so, how did you come to your decision?
Crystal: I wouldn’t say I struggled with the decision but how people that are in the book may personally perceive the book did cross my mind. However the purpose of me writing my book outweighed that thought quickly. I talk about real life situations and how I overcame them by the grace of the most High God.
Fancy: You are responsible for many people. How do you balance working/writing with family?
Crystal: I honestly ask myself that same question a lot, but I put The Most High God first and everything else works itself out.
Fancy: What is one piece of advice that you feel has carried you throughout life?
Crystal: The most High God will never put anymore on me than I can bear.
Fancy: Do you plan to write anymore books?
Crystal: Yes I plan to write a few more books soon.
Fancy: Do you have any upcoming events or projects that you care to share?
Crystal: No upcoming events as far as my book since its release on July 1st of this year, but I do still operate in my LLC and participate in programs targeting youth, men, and women alongside other Spiritual leaders and mentors.
