Fancy: How would you describe your swagher? What makes Kamshuka, Kamshuka?

Kamshuka: My fears and fire combined gave birth to sunshine and storms. Here to disturb patterns, create magic and live fearlessly each day while facing my fears one day at a time. The ability to take the ingredients of being a victim and transform it into the greatness of impact. Being the change and learning through life’s circumstances how to live a full purposeful life.

Fancy: At what age did you leave Uganda, and do you live in the States now or do you live in Canada?

Kamshuka: I left Uganda when I was four years old, moved to India for three years while separated from my mother, but we reunited in the middle East. Then we moved and currently reside in Canada.

Fancy: So tell us about your book “Becoming Warrior”.

Kamshuka: “Becoming Warrior” is the play by play journey of a little girl (myself) going through the worst of life and discovering that it was all because she was becoming a warrior. The journey with purpose, the pain for reason, the moments of despair for a future Hope. No longer a victim. Only a Warrior.

Fancy: Do you recall when you discovered your purpose and did you act on that instinct or thought immediately or was it something that you had to grow into?

Kamshuka: My purpose found me. I no longer wanted to exist. I was suicidal more times than I could count. In my desperation to take my life, I realized I was still here for a purpose. It wasn’t overnight, but I went on a journey to discover what that purpose was. I chose to live and to live fiercely.

Fancy: And you’re not just an author or storyteller, but you are also a photographer. Did photography come naturally for you or did you decide to pick it up after seeing how it could complement your writing?

Kamshuka: Photography was my therapy. The art of photography, writing, and music brought me a sense of calm. I used to journal my story but when I started traveling and embracing other people’s stories I found a love in capturing their journeys. I would photograph these beautiful souls and learn what their scars, wrinkles, and pain meant. I told their stories. It taught me to look at my own story so differently. We all have a story. How we choose to define ourselves determines how we heal through our journey.

Fancy: What is a typical workday like for you?

Kamshuka: I wake up at 7 am; it’s a rush; get my kids to school, get back home, silence my mind, meditate, align my thoughts, get to a coffee shop, calibrate my calendar, head to the gym, get my body in alignment, and then handle my calls and meetings for the day. I have always believed in being involved in my kids’ daily mental health and wellbeing, so I prefer to put a pause in my day when the kids get home. Take time to sit down with them and see what made them smile through the day and what the low lights were. My day still isn’t quite done, but with the support of my husband and family, we share the same goals to protect and preserve our mental and emotional health. I take mental days often and try to give myself healthy recovery days often as well. I don’t want to be busy; it’s progress and within the purpose that I choose to flow from.

Fancy: Being that I’ve already placed you on three continents from reading about you, lol, how do you keep yourself grounded?

Kamshuka: My family keeps me grounded. I love looking back on where I came from. I never wanted to be famous or popular. I’ve always craved a life driven by purpose. I realize my life is lived in the service of others. I am thankful and grateful that God preserved my life. He keeps me grounded. I never forget the little girl within me who just wanted to bring peace and love to this world, to heal this world.

Fancy: Your book is entitled “Becoming Warrior” which sounds strong; one’s mind typically would lean towards strength, and yet when looking at you, I detect a strong feminine energy as well. Do you have any tips to help other women balance the two?

Kamshuka: Thank you. It’s a daily strive. The definition of balance changes from day to day. Each day it can mean something different. I am a goddess, made in the image of God and it is my duty to honor the body I live in. I put myself first. I love myself first and I take and speak life into myself first. As women we are entrusted with so much; we give life and also can take life. We are powerful. So powerful. Our energy is a storm. Once we align ourselves and align our goals, we can function from a place of love.

Fancy: As you are healing as you help to heal others, how do you not exhaust yourself?

Kamshuka: I exhaust myself when I overgive, overlove, and overstep into spaces I am not ready for. As a healer we begin from within, when we feel and function as a whole, we can flow from a place of abundance and not feel drained.

Fancy: Do you have any upcoming projects or events that you care to share?

Kamshuka: My mission into 2020 is to love a little louder, those around me and myself. My upcoming project will reflect a greater sense of love. I am excited to introduce a new series of empowerment events called “Goddess Come Through” which will focus on women healing from within and flowing into the fullness ahead of each of us.
