Author Spotlight: Kelli Parker

Kelli Parker is a Kansas City, Missouri native. Her love of reading and writing transformed into her hobby and passion, devoted to giving her readers exciting, emotionally charged poetry and fiction. She loves spending time with her family and working in the church. Kelli resides in South KC with her husband, Steve, and the youngest of their five children.

Fancy: How would you describe your swagher? What makes Kelli, Kelli?

Kelli: There is more to me than meets the eye. I’ve spent most of my life quietly behind the scenes, so now that I’m breaking out of that shell and shadow. I think a lot of people are surprised.  I love to encourage people and help them see the beauty they’ve always possessed.  I can be pretty serious, but I love to laugh and have a good time.  My mother went on to be with the Lord last year, so I’m trying to live the best life I can while I have the time.

Fancy: You published your first book this year, “Face of Eve”, which is a poetry book correct? Can you share a little about it?

Kelli: Yes, “Faces of Eve” is a collection of poetry that takes the reader on Eve’s journey for love.  The highs and lows of each of her encounters leaves her a little more broken each time, but she holds on to the hope that true love will find her.  When she reaches her lowest point, she has an encounter with Jesus and realizes for the first time in her life what love truly is.

Fancy: So how do you identify with Eve?

Kelli: Much of Eve’s journey is based on my own, as well the journeys of women that I’ve known.  I too, wanted to find that perfect love that doesn’t lie, cheat or destroy, but instead builds up and makes a woman feel free to be who God intended her to be.  I spent most of my life trying to accept and love who I am.  Until that happens, you can’t truly love anyone else.

Fancy: I see that it took you twenty years to comprise this book, though you originally did not know what you would do with it. Do you have a writing method?

Kelli: I don’t have a specific writing method.  My poetry, especially, is so based on inspiration that I never know what’s coming.  It can be a title of a song or movie (Love Comes Softly), a lipstick color (Midnight Vamp), etc that strikes me, and I begin to write.  There have even been times that I would wake up in the middle of the night with something stirring, and I have to write it down.

Fancy: Do you have a novel in the works as well?

Kelli: There are a few novels in the works.  I actually published a novel, “The Woman in the Mirror”, in 2009, which I plan to revamp and release the second edition.  There will be a sequel to that one as well.  I plan to stay very busy!

Fancy:I know that you enjoy working in the church. What type of activities do you partake in?

Kelli: I serve with a passionate group of people at my church, and we are working to increase our presence in the community.  I also enjoy spending time with my family.

Fancy: Do you do any other work outside of writing?

Kelli: I do have a full time job in the cancer center of our children’s hospital.  I’ve been there almost 20 years, and I’ve been the administrative assistant at my church for almost four years.

Fancy: Where can “Faces of Eve” be found?

Kelli: Interested readers can purchase “Faces of Eve” on my website and on Amazon.

Fancy: Do you have any upcoming events or projects that you care to share?

Kelli: We are working to schedule more book signing events which will be listed on the website and send to our email distribution list.  I have a feeling, though, that once people meet Eve, they will want to know more about her.  Talking about her could fill my calendar.
