Kendra “K. J.” Chitman is a native of Shreveport, Louisiana. She is a talented woman who wears many hats and titles, including wife and mother. An alumni of Texas College, she obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree in English, graduating with honors. Chitman is a self-published visionary author of “Bandages Anthology 2022”. Kendra is the founder and executive director of Rising Star Theatrical Productions, a non profit organization 501 C3. She is a prolific writer and dramatist; her motto is “Only what you do for Christ will last”!
Fancy: What sparked your interest in playwriting?
Kendra: At an early age, I was exposed to stage performances by the sixth grade. I saw Wimp Van Winkle, Carmen, and Madam Butterfly on stage at a live performance. It was very intriguing to watch. Later, in college, I took a creative writing class and discovered that I had a creative side and wrote my first stage play after graduating college.
Fancy: So Rising Star Theatrical Productions is your nonprofit. Please tell us more about it.
Kendra: Rising Star Theatrical Productions was created to bring a multicultural community theater to Shreveport, Louisiana. RSTP Is determined to make worldwide connections. Our primary focus is soul-winning, evangelism, and community enhancement through theater.
Fancy: What is the synopsis of your anthology, “Bandages.”
Kendra: How do you maintain your faith in God when tragedy strikes? K. J. Chitman compiled stories with 11 authors about their journey through trauma and tragedy to encourage you on the road to recovery. You are not alone. God can heal you in every way it hurts.
Fancy: How did this book project come about?
Kendra: I wanted to create a market for those who were hurting and to let them know there is hope in the midst of their circumstances.
Fancy: As the book’s visionary, who did you all write this book for?
Kendra: This book encourages anyone who has gone through any trauma or pain to move forward.
Fancy: What projects are you currently working on?
Kendra: I am currently working on an anthology for a poetry book.
Fancy: How would you describe your SwagHer? What makes Kendra, Kendra?
Kendra: It is the fact that I’m determined, undefeated, unique, talented, courageous, and bold. I will not stop trying.
Fancy: What else can we expect from you in 2023?
Kendra: In 2023, I will be working on a few field projects, and stage plays in hosting murder mystery shows.
