Magdalina Sylvain is the author of How I Lied My Way To The Altar And Now I’m Happily Married. Originally from New York, now residing in Orlando, FL, Magdalina is a compassionate, enthusiastic motivator, ministry leader, and speaker, inspiring Christian women who are frustrated and discouraged just as she was, and believe they will never make it to their altar! During Magdalina’s Journey to find her “Bad Boy Christian†she had to overcome many serious heartbreaks that occur when dating, as well as fornicating, all while striving to be a good Christian woman.
Magdalina found herself alone with no one available that could relate to her trials or encourage her by letting her know that she was still worthy of finding love and getting married. Magdalina was able to overcome some deceptions that were holding her back using some simple principles she discovered on her journey and was able to attract her “Bad Boy Christian†whom she thought would never surface within a year. Magdalina is now happily married to Dudley and has two beautiful girls named Laila-Amber and Liya-Angelique.
While meeting other women, the wife and mother discovered there were many women struggling with the same issues she had and was able to help, encourage, and guide them through her story. She now uses those principles to help support and encourage Christian women to overcome their deceptions which will position them to “Lie Their Way To Their Altar! Magdalina’s goal is to create a community of women who are striving in ALLwayz to Remain Enlightened about who they truly are and Defeat their Deceptions, (ALLwayz REDD).

Fancy: How would you describe your swagher? What makes Magdalina, Magdalina?
Magdalina: To tell you the truth I had to rediscover who I was or should I say who God said I was. From childhood to adulthood facing heartbreaks, rejections, setbacks, and plenty of disappointments, life tends to drown out who you are and was created to be. For me, I had been through so much that I had to pray and ask God to help me find me, who I truly was. My journey was long and painful, but all worth it. My journey caused me to find out who I Am.
I am a “goal-getterâ€. I will not give up until I reach the destination that I am to reach. I am willing to make the sacrifices necessary to walk that path God created me to walk. I know and understand that I am a missing puzzle piece to someone’s future! That is a great responsibility that God has given me and I cannot let God down. My life is not about me but about helping others. I am a woman of great faith and no matter how challenging life may get, I continue to walk by faith and not by sight. I am willing to get out of my comfort zone no matter how uncomfortable I may feel, because I know and understand that, that will make me grow. I am loving and compassionate about others, life and TIME. I do my best to never take anyone, anything, or TIME for granted. So, I have to say my swagher is that I continue to evolve daily, love daily, appreciate all daily, live peacefully daily, laugh daily and most important BELIEVE daily. I can accomplish this by Trusting in God daily, not worrying about tomorrow.
Fancy: Were you one of those young girls always fantasizing about marriage when you were younger?
Magdalina: Growing up watching Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty and the Huxtables (fictional family in The Cosby Show), you naturally picture your true love sweeping you off your feet. However, for me, I started fantasizing about marriage when I was about 16 years old. That was when my sister got married, and I realized that I wanted someone to love me too. Her getting married was the catalyst to my journey to finding my “Bad Boy Christianâ€
Fancy: Did you come from a two-parent household?
Magdalina: My parents got divorced when I was five years old. Since I was so young, I really could not see the effects it had on my life. As I got older I started to realize the damage it caused myself and my two older sisters. Both of my parents remarried and had kids with their new spouse, leaving me and my two sisters feeling alienated as an outsider trying to fit into a new family. You never really feel at home. I always felt like I was visiting. Both parents were preoccupied with their new family, and naturally, we got neglected. Obviously, this was not done on purpose, but the effects on me and my siblings were tremendous. Because of that, when I got older, I prayed that when I got married I would do my best to never let my children experience that.
Fancy: So what exactly is a “Bad Boy Christian?
Magdalina: “Bad Boy Christianâ€, yes, everyone likes to ask me what I mean by that. Let me explain, I had prayed for a bad boy Christian which for me was a guy who had found God, lived life, did his dirt when it came to dating so that by the time he met me and married me he would never wonder what he left behind. He would know without a doubt that I am the best thing that could walk into his life. He would be confident and not affected by my heavy past and still love me! I am grateful that God blessed me with exactly that! I have been married now for 7 years and together for 11 years. We have two beautiful daughters, Laila 9, and Liya 4.
Fancy: “How I Lied My Way to the Alter and Now I am Happily Marriedâ€-that’s some title, but can you recall the moment you decided to write your book or was it derived from a journal?
Magdalina: The decision to write the book was really about putting my faith and God to the test.
Let me further explain, one day as I was crying and praying to God asking why can’t I find my husband, God answered and told me what I was doing that was causing all the turmoil in my relationships.
He spoke to my heart and said, “if you would just trust me and do what I’ve been telling you; you would meet your husband and get marriedâ€. So, I began writing the book as a way to confirm God’s promise to me.
By faith, I finished the first half of my book in 2007, and I had to wait to meet my husband to complete the other half. But, from the time I completed the first half I met my husband a year later and married three years later.
Fancy: So can you tell us a little more about the book? Are these dating principles? Do you mind sharing one or two of them with us?
Magdalina: My book is not a set of dating principles. As a matter of fact, it’s not about dating at all. It is more about the transformation I had to go through in order to attract my husband. When I decided to write my book, it was by faith. I wanted to show women who were hurting and discouraged in relationships that God does answer prayers and their husband does exist. My book was supposed to be a testimony, but once I completed it, I realized that my book outlined my transformation from doubting I would ever find my “Bad boy Christian†to knowing I would find my “Bad boy Christianâ€.
As far as the principles that I applied to attract my husband they come right from the bible and can be applied to anything your believing God for which is your “Altarâ€.
One key principle I can share that I believe was and continues to be the catalyst for my success in marriage and my other ‘Altars†in life is the “Being principle†I become who I want to be before it happens. You do this by completely immersing yourself into that life. I’ll give you an example. Once I made the decision that I wanted a husband and a family, all the decisions I made in life had to align with that vision of my life. I purchased things for my future husband and daughter. I even walked away from situations in life that would negatively impact my character for the sake of my future family that did not even exist yet. This principle takes a lot of faith, but I believe that it is key to everyone’s future who desires an “Altarâ€.
Fancy: Do you think the struggles of Christian dating are different from those of other faiths?
Magdalina: I think that all faiths have their own struggles in dating. The true struggle in dating I believe comes from within. Once someone has been hurt and rejected over and over, their subconscious begins to form the idea that finding a spouse is “hard†or believe marriage “will never happen for themâ€, in addition to all the other lies they are being fed from social media on how they should look in order to find love to what material possessions they should have. All of these ideas become one’s truths, and because that is what they believe in their subconscious, their reality reflects just that- recurring rejections and disappointments. Jesus said to take your thoughts captive, and unfortunately, many Christian women seem to fail in this area.

Fancy: Can you tell us more about the community you are building?
Magdalina: As I mentioned earlier, my life is not about me but about helping others. God put in my heart to build a community of women that will always Remain Enlightened and Defeat Deception (Allwayz REDD). My goal is to help women get over their Limited Ideas Entrapped In their Subconscious (L.I.E.S) so that they too can position themselves and “lie their way to their altarâ€. They can achieve this by replacing their old L.I.E.S with new L.I.E.S (Liberating Ideas that will Emancipate their Spirit).
Fancy: Do you have any upcoming events or projects that you care to share?
Magdalina: I offer one-on-one coaching to guide and support women through the steps that I took to redesign and transform myself.
