Fancy: What inspired your latest book, “Goodbye Fear, Hello Destiny”?

Tamara: Pretty much all my life I struggled with fear, especially when I was a single mom.  My fear was failure knowing that I had a little one depending on me.  But what is failure?  I had to convince myself that there was no such thing as failure.  If I do things to the best of my ability, learn from my mistakes, strived for progress and not perfection then failure would never be an option for me.  It was not easy, but I literally talked myself through it daily.  My daughter was my motivation to do better and want better.

Fear is a common emotion that most people deal with.  Fear can prevent you from pursuing your passion and living with purpose.  Fear can keep you stagnant and complacent.  Complacency is not a trait or “space” that I have ever identified or been comfortable with.  That’s how this book was birthed.  It’s a message of hope to myself and many others, so that we learn how to step and live outside of the box…our comfort zone.  Being uncomfortable forces us to grow, to seek solutions, and to try something different.  At least it did for me.  Fear will no longer keep me living or settling for less than I know I deserve.

Fancy: Now in your first book, “#GoalGetter”, you said you were sharing your story. Is “Goodbye Fear” like a continuation of sorts?

Tamara: Yes I feel it is a continuation.  Both book projects are told from my own real-life experiences.  They are meant to be motivational, inspirational and empowering. What do you do when fear and doubt show up?  You do not give up!  You keep moving forward!  You learn to be vulnerable!  You start living and stop just existing.  You learn to LIVE!!!!

Fancy: Mindset seems to be a major theme in the book. What are your thoughts on how our mindset prepares us for success?

Tamara: Good question.  In my opinion, our mindset determines the outcome, be it good or bad.  It can be a bad situation, but if our mindset is fixated on seeing the good, the positive and making the best of the situation, then we are more apt to see the greater good.  It’s like the whole concept of seeing the glass as half full instead of half empty.  Our views, our experiences, our perspective, our mindset (way of thinking) matters!

I love the quote by Gandhi

“Your beliefs become your thoughts,
Your thoughts become your words,
Your words become your actions,
Your actions become your habits,
Your habits become your values,
Your values become your destiny.”

Fancy: I noticed both of your books include strategies, which I think are great, but may I ask for other inquiring writers, how do you go about creating the strategies themselves?

Tamara: The strategies themselves are created from experiences (trial and error).  What has worked for me, as well as what has worked for others.  Each individual is unique within his or her own right.  We may or may not have experienced similar obstacles and challenges.  In my books, I have lived out everything that I have shared.  Its “personal”, and therefore I share the good and the not so good with tips and strategies about what worked for me and others around me.  I tell people all the time with any information they receive, “chew the meat and toss the bone”.  Meaning, apply what is applicable to you, and what isn’t applicable, you can disregard.
