Author Spotlight: Tamesha Edwards

Tamesha Edwards is a natural born author, whose gift of bringing things to life through words has shaped her own life throughout the years. The Berkeley born, Oakland raised author has consistently nourished her passion, and even as child she had already penned a repertoire, including books, poems, and even a play.

Now at these heights in her womanhood, Tamesha has delivered the captivating “Caustic”. “Caustic” is an enthralling novel that touches base on a plethora of issues that are currently coming to the forefront of society  today by telling the arduous, painful, and traumatic story of a young woman who is trying to grow through it all. You will cry and feel as though you’re soul searching right alongside her, as you accompany one woman’s journey in “Caustic”.

Ursula: What’s your swagher? What makes Tamesha, Tamesha?

Tamesha: Having confidence, being original, true to self, without comprising my integrity and remaining prayerful throughout life.

Family and friends, an encompass of the past and present life experiences, perseverance; this made me become resilient through all trials and tribulations; the strong bloodline of my ancestors; the diverse association within the community, culture that consists of art, music, and passion of literature, are many of the things that make me, me.

Ursula: As a writer, how does it feel when someone explains to you how your stories touched/entertained them?

Tamesha: This is the absolute compliment, to receive from readers that the embodiment of literary work is being received with an impact and/or can relate to the storyline. If I can touch just one person, I feel that this is the type of impact that I want to make as a writer/storyteller.

Ursula: What made you want to write “Caustic” and start the “Caustic” Book Trilogy?  

Tamesha: In 2002, my life forever changed; when a dream entered my thoughts, and created the story, “Caustic”. It was a script, although, I did not have an agent and when I tried to submit my script, I was turned down various times. I stepped out on faith and decided to write the story as a trilogy series. I understood, that this is a blessing that I received, and the story was intended to be told, and share with individuals that are fond of reading fictional stories with a non-fiction premise.

Ursula: Who are some of your literary inspirations?

Tamesha: Maya Angelou, Zora Neale Hurston, and J. California Cooper.

Ursula: Do you have a favorite book or favorite genre to read?  

Tamesha:I do not have a favorite book or genre. Reason being, is that I become lost in words and captivated by the writing of various authors.

Ursula: If you could have a long talk with anyone (living or not, famous or not) who would it be?  

Tamesha: At this moment, my mother is battling pancreatic cancer, and the mass has spread to part of her liver and outside of her colon; prayer is constant, and I wish that I can keep talking with my mother until we are both sitting together in our rocking chairs.

Ursula: What are you most proud of in life?

Tamesha: Motherhood, being a mother to my “Bears”. A mother bear protects her cubs, and my daughter and son are the blessing that keeps on giving in my life.

Ursula: Do you have any tips for those who wish to write their own book?

Tamesha: Always, protect your literary work. Remember to copyright, LCCN, trademark your cover design, and stay true to your creativity.

Ursula: What do you like to do in your down time?

Tamesha: Reading, traveling and writing and volunteering.

Ursula: What are you currently reading?

Tamesha: Currently, I just completed reading, “The Silent Patient”, by Alex Michaelides, psychological thriller.
