Fancy: How would you describe your swagher? What makes Tocha, Tocha?
Tocha: Tocha’s swagher is “I am the exception to the rule.†I am not afraid to go against the norm, and I embrace that fact that I am different. I have always said that my parents spelled my name Tocha, because they knew I was unique from birth. I empower others to embrace the part of them that makes them who they are! I live my life doing the same. What a boring world this would be if we were all the same! Embrace all of YOU as you walk in your purpose, and others will too!
Fancy: So tell us about your business, Purpose and P.O.W.E.R. Life Coaching and how it began.
Tocha: Purpose & P.O.W.E.R. Life Coaching began from conversations that I had with people. Over and over, I was told that they didn’t know what their purpose in life was; they all had questions about what they were meant to do. I have always been the go-to friend when you need help with a problem, so after much prayer, I decided that I needed to help more than just the friends that asked for my advice. I want to help anyone I can figure out their purpose! I believe that your purpose is in you from birth, but sometimes we need help tapping into what is already there. The acronym P.O.W.E.R stands for Providing Ourselves Wisdom Encouraging Responsibility. Ultimately, you must always strive to obtain knowledge, obtain experience, AND you have to take responsibility. That includes where you are in life and any choices made to result in changes.

Fancy: Please share a little about your book “A Letter to a Father – All the Things You Want to Say†and what inspired it?
Tocha: “A Letter to a Father – All the Things You Want to Say†is about my personal journey of not knowing my biological father but having a Dad that stepped in and raised me as his own, and somehow part of me still felt incomplete. I had everything I could have wanted, but I was still missing something. The book was inspired by God, he knew the missing part I felt I needed made me angry, and I carried it into my adult life, and it affected every area. The book is about dealing with and healing in relationships.

Fancy: Did you find writing to be therapeutic for you?
Tocha: Yes! When I started the book I didn’t realize how angry I was at a man I had only seen twice in my life. I questioned every relationship in my life, because I never felt good enough. Writing this book helped me understand the importance of writing your feelings and thoughts, the importance of closure, and that I am good enough!
Fancy: Your book title makes me think of a debate I’ve been seeing online. Which do you think is more harmful, an absent father or a toxic mother and why?
Tocha: Honestly, I feel that an absent father is more harmful. I know someone that had an absent father and a toxic mother, and both have had a damaging effect. But, the absence of the father affected them more. I believe that people can take the view they have of a (non – existent natural father) and apply that to the other relationships they have. An absent father creates the mindset for a young girl that all men leave or are not supposed to be there. For a young boy who becomes a man, it can create a mindset that says men aren’t important or needed. People deal with toxic instances all the time, but absences don’t get dealt with because the individual isn’t present.
Fancy:  What is some of the best advice you’ve received whether personally or professionally?
Tocha: The best advice that I have received was to be the best version of myself, to be authentically me without apologies.

Fancy:  I love your saying, “Your Purpose is attached to someone else’s and they cannot walk in theirs until you walk in yours!” Where did it come from and why is it so important to you?
Tocha: The saying came to me one day during my me time. It is important to me, because I realized that if you do not walk in the purpose that is set before you, someone else will not be able to reach theirs. We are all helpers one to another. There are people that you are predestined to work with, collaborate with, receive from, and pour in to, and if you are not walking in your purpose those connections will never happen.
Fancy: What books are you currently reading?
Tocha: I am currently reading “Destiny – Step into Purpose†by Bishop T.D Jakes! His words are so inspiring and relevant to me right now. I am also about to begin reading “Believe Bigger – Discover the Path to Your Life Purpose†by Marshawn Evans Daniels.
Fancy: Â Do you have any upcoming events or projects that you care to share?
Tocha: Yes! I am currently working on a daily devotional book and developing seminars and master classes. I will be a featured author at the Women of Purpose Conference held October 5-7, 2018 in Myrtle Beach, SC. I am also hosting a Fall Retreat titled Purpose Moments with Tocha on November 2-4, 2018.
