Fancy: How would you describe your swagher? What makes Vermell, Vermell?

Vermell: I would describe it as earthly, warm natured, and accessible with a sense of humor.

What makes Vermell, Vermell is my consistency and forthrightness, my ability to endure different obstacles in life and always trying to find the positive side to a difficult situation.

Fancy: What inspired your first book “Perfectly Imperfect”?

Vermell: Just being an awareness raiser for the many difficulties young women go through… I realized that I may have been a potential author of a book that had not yet been written. So I decided that there was a market for this book, which entails many of my own personal experiences used to provide a storyline format.

Fancy: How did your work with anti-bullying advocacy begin?

Vermell: I began my work with anti-bullying in 2015, because I felt like a change had to be made. Someone had to start standing up for our youth, so that they know they are not alone and that they have a voice in this world. I started going to schools and creating bullying boxes. I even started doing YouTube videos on bullying called ‘Our Youth Needs Our Help” to show our youth that I’m going to continue to fight. I also got schools to play it over the P.A. system during morning announcements. I hope to one day own a youth center so that kids that are being bullied can have a safe place to go. My YouTube channel is sassyv81.

Fancy: As an educator do you feel like schools do enough on their part to combat bullying or do you think they should do more?

Vermell: In general, we can all do more. It’s the schools responsibility to educate; we have the responsibility to educate our schools.

Fancy: Do you have any tips or warning signs for parents who may be worried their child is the bully/tormentor?

Vermell:

  1. Child is always talking back to you.
  2. Child gets easily frustrated with you when things don’t go there way or when they don’t get their way.
  3. They have lack of empathy towards another person. No one else’s feelings matter but their own.

Fancy: So tell us about your book Amira’s Day at the Zoo with Mom-Mom and was it inspired by your granddaughter?

Vermell: Amira’s Day at the Zoo with Mom-Mom is about taking some time out and enjoying the day at the zoo with the animals. Coming soon 2019.

Fancy: Do you have a writing method? If so, can you share it with us?

Vermell: Yes. I sit back on my couch with some scented candles and a warm blanket. I relax my mind and put everything else aside and begin my writing process.

What book are you currently reading now?

Right now I’m currently reading a book called Games by S.Quanaah.

This book is about unhealthy behavior patterns designed to take advantage of others, and manipulate the environment.

Do you have any upcoming events or projects that you care to share?

Right now I’m sort of taking time to work on more published works geared towards children. I also have one novel that I hope to publish by the end of 2019. I’m also working on my collaboration on the Girl Power Uncensored as a co-author, along with my bullying advocacy work.
