The community is invited to enjoy an evening of dinner and dancing at The Shades of Success Calendar’s third annual awards gala. Twelve women of color with Louisiana ties will receive awards that spotlight their professional work, accomplishments, and community contributions.
The banquet will be held at Drusilla Place Catering on Drusilla Lane in Baton Rouge on March 15 from 6 pm to 9 pm. Tickets are available online at theshadesofsuccess.net.
The project is spearheaded by a group of African-American journalists from Louisiana who had a vision of giving back to their community, including Valentina Wilson, Virnado Woods, Chante Warren, Cecily Holland, Lena Foster, and Donald Lee. The honorees not only receive an award but are also published in a full-color, 12×12 glossy calendar that includes both their photos and biographies.
Additionally, the calendar leadership team makes a financial donation to its charity of choice. This year, the nonprofit they selected is The Bridge Center for Hope in Baton Rouge.
The Shades of Success staff accepts applications and resumes from women interested in being a part of the calendar and, each year selects 12 women as honorees. This year’s recipients are:
- Revettea Woods – attorney
- Tamara Kennedy – Chief of Staff and Human Resources Director for the Port of South Louisiana
- Sudan Britton – former multimedia journalist now working as a communication/grants director
- Sydney Simone – TV news anchor and founder of the “College Playground” podcast
Tyra Banks – program development, public policy and consulting professional - Danielle Janay Chretien – educator, advocate, and senior specialist for the National Institute of Excellence in Teaching
- Kelly Williams – certified lactation counselor, practical nurse, and owner of Nurture Lactation Support, LLC
- Dr. Erica Joseph – adult psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner and owner of Transformative Health, LLC
- Whitney Dawn Breaux – breast cancer awareness advocate and Global Executive Director at Eli Lilly
- Ariyal Fabre Lewis – attorney and author
- Dr. Christianne Ricard – licensed therapist and mindset coach
- Victoria Young – licensed professional counselor
