With a record of 13 wins and 4 losses, the Baltimore Ravens secured the number one seed for the playoffs, and their electrifying quarterback, Lamar Jackson, is the favorite to win the NFL’s Most Valuable Player award.

Jackson finished the year on a strong note as he led his team to a victory against the top team in the National Football Conference (NFC) in Week 16, and he followed it up with a blowout victory against one of the top teams in the American Football Conference (AFC).

In 2018, 2016 Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson had an unexpected wait as he would be the last pick in the first round of the NFL Draft. Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, Josh Allen, and Josh Rosen were the four quarterbacks selected ahead of Jackson.

Most teams decided not to draft Lamar Jackson because they viewed him as a running quarterback who needed to be more accurate when it came to passing the football. Due to his athleticism, some draft experts thought Jackson should switch positions and become a wide receiver.

However, the Baltimore Ravens believed Jackson could play the quarterback position as they selected him with the 32nd pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. A year later, Lamar Jackson was voted league Most Valuable Player, as he threw for 3,127 yards and 36 touchdowns.

Throughout the first half of the 2023 season, Lamar Jackson wasn’t on the radar regarding winning the league Most Valuable Player award. Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy and 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey were the early favorites.

During the second half of the season, Lamar Jackson used his arm talent and electrifying running style to maneuver his name into the MVP conversation. In week 16, Jackson spent his holiday in San Francisco facing two MVP candidates.

Christian McCaffrey had a solid performance as he ran for 104 yards, but Brock Purdy had a nightmare of a game as he threw 4 costly interceptions. Lamar Jackson threw for 252 yards and 2 touchdowns as the Ravens stole Christmas by defeating the 49ers 33-19.

The following week, the Ravens were scheduled to play another quarterback who was considered a candidate for MVP honors. On New Year’s Eve, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and his Miami Dolphins traveled to Baltimore to face Jackson and the Ravens.

Lamar Jackson made a statement against the Dolphins by posting a perfect quarterback rating of 158.3, as he passed for 321 yards and 5 touchdowns. The contest was no contest, as the Ravens dismantled the Dolphins by scoring 56-19.

With the win, the Baltimore Ravens secured the No.1 seed in the AFC. Lamar Jackson’s impressive performance against one of the top teams in the AFC helped him emerge as the front-runner in the MVP race.

For the 2023 regular season, Lamar Jackson completed 67.2% of his passes. He threw for 3,678 yards and 24 touchdowns. He also led his team in rushing, as he ran for 821 yards along with five rushing touchdowns.

The Most Valuable Player Award is an award to recognize a player for his game-changing excellence. Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is a generational talent who is the epitome of a game-changer.

In his second season in the NFL, Lamar Jackson was named the 2019 Most Valuable Player. If he’s able to duplicate his past achievements, Jackson will join Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes as the only active quarterbacks to win multiple league MVPs.
