The people of the DMV have spoken. Out of three finalists, Barter Black® has been named Best Black Tech Company, marking a significant milestone for the community-powered platform and the entrepreneurs it serves.
Barter Black® is a marketplace of business services for entrepreneurs who can join the membership, receive Barter Bucks, and use those to pay for the work of other members. Members may also offer their own services and be compensated with Barter Bucks, creating a circular, trust-based economy that allows entrepreneurs to grow without the immediate financial barriers that often limit access to professional support.
The family-owned paper, The Washington Informer, recognized Barter Black® as part of its 2025 Best of DMV awards, celebrating organizations shaping the region’s cultural, economic, and entrepreneurial landscape. With winners selected by public vote, the recognition reflects strong community trust and regional impact.
“Being recognized as the 2025 Best of DMV – Best Black Tech Company is a powerful milestone for Barter Black®,” said Nicole Murphy, Founder & CEO of Barter Black®. “This award highlights the impact of building technology rooted in community, collaboration, and shared growth. We’re proud to represent what’s possible when Black entrepreneurs create solutions for each other.”
As Barter Black® continues to grow, the company remains focused on deepening its impact and scaling its community-powered model. With momentum from its Best of DMV recognition and a growing national network of entrepreneurs, Barter Black® is entering a new chapter—one that includes conversations with partners and investors who share its vision for sustainable, collaborative economic growth within the Black business community.
