Black Fashion Career Day Makes Its In-Person Debut, Centering BIPOC Voices in Style

Black Fashion Career Day

What started as a few heartfelt virtual conversations during the pandemic has now grown into a full-fledged movement — and it’s finally stepping into the spotlight. Black Fashion Career Day is back, and for the first time ever, it’s going live and in person on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at the iconic Alvin Ailey Studios in New York City from 11 AM to 3 PM.

Powered by the Black Fashion World Foundation (BFW Foundation), this annual event was created with one clear mission: to open doors and create space for Black and Brown professionals in the fashion industry. Because let’s be real — representation still lags, and access shouldn’t be a luxury.

This day is designed for students, dreamers, and career changers ages 18–44, many of whom are navigating this space with big ideas but limited resources. Whether you’re trying to break into design, fashion marketing, styling, or retail — this is where mentorship meets momentum. Attendees will leave with actionable steps, industry insight, and a deeper connection to a community that sees them.

Even more beautiful? It’s free. But because space is limited, registration is required. And while tickets won’t cost a thing, donations are welcomed to support the Stylist Scholarship Fund, an initiative that helps eliminate financial barriers for aspiring fashion pros.

BFW Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is deeply rooted in equity, education, and access. Their work recently caught the attention of the Legacy Ball of Harlem, hosted by World Bride Magazine founder Myrdith Leon-McCormack. The foundation has been selected as a beneficiary of the prestigious fundraiser, with proceeds directly supporting its scholarship fund. In addition, Whole Foods is donating hospitality support to care for our hardworking event staff.

This moment is bigger than fashion — it’s about access, visibility, and ownership in an industry that has often told us there’s no seat at the table. Black Fashion Career Day is a reminder that not only is there room — we’ve been the blueprint all along.
