In an effort to end racism and police brutality, “Black Out Day” encourages consumers to shop with Black-owned businesses specifically. On Tuesday, July 7, 2020, black consumers and other voluntary allies decided to band together to withhold expenditures from all non-black businesses and organizational chains. Black dollars account for over a trillion dollars in both general and e-commerce combined. Twenty-four hours of sustainable non-spending will most drastically affect America’s pockets. And to make this day a little more memorable, it’s the day following #MyBlackReceipt exceeding its goal with over five million dollars spent with Black businesses.Â
The #MyBlackReciept’ Movement measures Blacks buying power as well as the power of buying Black. Economic catalyst and frontrunner, Kezia M. William and her team have been counting receipts spent with Black businesses from Juneteenth to July 6, 2020. They set a spending goal of $5M. They have exceeded that goal with receipts totaling $7,591,825.03 and counting!
In addition to uploading your receipt to the #MyBlackReceipt site, you can also browse through a directory of Black entrepreneurs located in the US and abroad. Black business owners sign up on Yelp and Yelp for Business.Â
Undoubtedly it has become a reliable go-to resource for so many by helping businesses stand out with information pertaining to company reviews, sales positioning, high-traffic Ads, etc. Businesses who invest in listing with Yelp build both an effective and quality connection with their target audience and consumer market. Go ahead and see for yourself! Feel free to hop on over to Yelp.com today!
The protests continue. But this time it is an economic dissent.
