BLK Dating App, the leading dating and lifestyle app for the Black community, has created an exciting collection of emojis and GIFs that celebrate Black culture and its profound influence on social media trends in celebration of World Emoji Day. This new collection, aptly named ‘BLKmojis,’ is designed to fill a gap in the digital landscape by providing more diverse and culturally representative emojis. GIPHY will use its platform to promote these new inclusive emojis.
“Representation in digital and social spaces is essential, and with BLKmojis, we’re excited to offer emojis that truly reflect the language and expressions of Black youth,” said Jonathan Kirkland, Head of Brand and Marketing for BLK. “This collaboration with GIPHY not only celebrates our culture but also highlights the importance of diversity and inclusivity in every facet of our social and digital interactions.”
The ‘BLKmojis’ collection includes a range of fun and expressive emojis that resonate with popular sayings, phrases, and idioms within Black culture. Each emoji and GIF is crafted to reflect the unique vibrancy and creativity that Black culture contributes to the global digital conversation.

To bring the ‘BLKmojis’ collection to life, BLK collaborated with Meaningful Gigs, a platform that connects diverse designers with companies around the world for creative projects, to identify a talented African designer who could authentically capture the essence of Black culture through these new emojis. Wale Adeyeye, an illustrator, motion, and interaction designer, was chosen for this project due to his creativity and passion, which shine through in every ‘BLKmoji’ Wale’s ability to draw inspiration from the world around him is evident in his stunning designs that truly celebrate the Black experience. His work on the ‘BLKmojis’ collection beautifully encapsulates the spirit and vibrancy of Black culture, making this collaboration a true celebration of representation.
BLK partnered with GIPHY to amplify the ‘BLKmojis’ campaign for World Emoji Day. As the world’s largest GIF platform, GIPHY will promote the new emojis on their platform, increasing the campaign’s visibility. This partnership is key to GIPHY’s mission to support and authentically represent historically marginalized communities.
“At GIPHY, we love love. And as a Black woman, I particularly appreciate how this partnership between BLK and GIPHY has the potential to amplify Black love stories and reach a broader audience,” says Lydia Getachew, Senior Client Lead at GIPHY. “GIPHY aims to help people express themselves and make everyday conversations more meaningful, and we’re excited to bring these relevant, timely emojis to the BLK community as part of this campaign.”
