Since the murder of Stephon Clark by the Sacramento Police Department in March 2018, the Sacramento Chapter of the Black Lives Matter Global Network (BLM) has held peaceful protests outside of District Attorney Anne Schubert’s office in hopes for justice for the Clark family.  More recently, police officers have begun using excessive force when engaging protestors. Officers have used their bikes as weapons, as well as tasers and metal batons on protesters.
“This community is outraged and in pain, and since the protests began, the Sacramento Police Department have used unwarranted actions and force when engaging our peaceful protesters,†said Tanya Faison, founder of the Sacramento chapter of Black Lives Matter. “The videos of Ebony Harper and Marilyn Price’s arrests are prime examples of the reckless nature of the Sacramento Police Department and the way they treat vocal residents.â€
On April 12, 2018, Ebony Ava Harper and Marilyn Price, both of whom are active supporters of the Sacramento chapter of Black Lives Matter were aggressively confronted and ultimately arrested by the Sacramento Police Department outside of the District Attorney’s office. The Sacramento Chapter of BLM has been fighting for justice for Stephon Clark since his murder by the Sacramento Police Department on March 18, 2018. The organization will continue to protest three days a week in front of DA Schubert ’s office until his family receives justice and charges are filed against the officers responsible for his death.
