Tamika Gibson is the owner of The Hair Diagram and the BoldHold Lace Products, but she is best known for her “45- Minute Sew In†technique. This weekend she will be combining all three, while hosting her 1st Annual BoldHold Showdown during Bronner Brothers International Beauty Show in Atlanta, GA.Â
The BoldHold Showdown event is a 2- day lace stylist competition. On Saturday, August 4th there is the lace competition. This competition is open to aspiring stylists and hair professionals. These participants will customize and apply a finished look on a unit. The purpose of this event is to see who can slay the hair the best. Then the final event will take place the next day. Participants must demonstrate creativity and speed while using Tamika’s famous “45-Minute Sew In†technique. The winner of the two events will receive a cash prize.
Tamika has been a hair stylist for 20 plus years. In her early years, she recalls it was hard to find training and hair resurrection was not open to the public to learn. Yes, people taught their students the ends and outs of the beauty industry, but they did not really break it down for more creative learners. After working for Mizani, the former military sergeant felt the need to teach, but she wanted to be a different type of teacher than what she had experienced. She wanted to be the person that she needed when she first started on this journey. Her and her husband developed a process name, The Hair Diagram, which is a plain and simple method to doing hair and giving aspiring stylists the blueprint for success.
After developing her style of teaching, she began to sell DVDs with her teachings. When wigs became popular, she remembered how harsh the glue had been prior. That is when she developed the Bold Hold Lace products. Although, Tamika’s reasons for starting the line were a bit “selfish†she explains, it is now used to help others. Bold Hold Lace line is only three- years old and has had limited marketing, but it has grown pretty much over night.
Tamika has created styles for people like Lil Mama, Tami Roman, KeKe Wyatt, Savannah James, Faith Evans, Lyrica Anderson and more. What she likes about them is how humble they are. She has also taught classes in Paris, Netherlands, and London and has distributors in these locations as well. She is excited about her upcoming trip to Africa in December.
The celeb stylist wanted to do this event to give back. She has taught so many classes, she wanted to give her students a chance to show off their talents. She wanted to bring everyone back “to slayâ€.
Tamika’s future goal is to continue developing stylists and says she wants to teach stylists in an orderly way. She would like also to help with financial assistance, while she is working towards building her students up as well as anyone else in the industry. Although, Tamika no longer sells DVD’s she does have online and in person courses. You can catch her at the Premiere Birmingham, The Southeastern Beauty Event, October 21, in Birmingham, Alabama. She will also be instructing a class at Florida’s Hair Battle & Beauty Expo, October 7, in Orlando, Florida. Follow her on all social media @boldholdlacewigtape and @thehairdiagram.
