Black is Beautiful is a collaborative effort to raise awareness for the injustices people of color face daily and raise funds for police brutality reform and legal defenses for those who have been wronged. Crafted by San Antonio resident Marcus Baskerville – “Black is Beautiful” has raised millions of dollars around the world.
During his interview with CBS News correspondent Janet Shamlian, Baskerville shares what inspired this initiative and why he chose beer as the medium to spark important these very important conversations.

Per their website Breweries can join the cause and participate in the collaborative effort by doing the following:
Download the special base recipe created by Weathered Souls Brewing Company that is designed to be a moderately high abv. stout to showcase the different shades of black. Breweries can add their own twist or ideas to the beer recipe.
- Donate 100% of the beer’s proceeds to local foundations that support police brutality reform and legal defenses for those who have been wronged
- Choose their own entity to donate to local organizations that support equality and inclusion
- Commit to the long-term work of equality
Drinkers can also join the collaborative by tagging their favorite brewery that hasn’t yet signed on, shout out Black is Beautiful and tag them with the #BlackIsBeautifulBeer.
