CEO Chatter: Can You Match My Hustle?

Can you match my hustle?

Usually, people share this term or phrase in regards to personal relationships. However, being able to match someone’s hustle is equally important in business, especially when you’re choosing a team.

The other morning, I noticed the graphic designer and I both be up at the wee hours of the morning working. Working the same hours as me, kind of reassuring me that he understood the importance of my project. It made me appreciate him a little more and also gave my trust in my judgment a confidence boost.

I reference Jarmel all the time, I am sure you see him tagging me his posts or mentioning me across Facebook. We’re often up at crazy hours, texting or occasionally planning and plotting on the phone. With Jarmel, I can be short and brief, quickly running the details by him, because he and I think so much alike in many ways.

Not everyone has a hustle mindset. I found it ironic that shortly after transcribing this blog, I talked with a friend and they shared how they only wanted to be surrounded by like-minded individuals and had recently let people go for the negativity they carried with them, along with noticing that they put more energy into complaining than their work.

I totally understood.

As with any relationship. It’s important that you’re equally yoked with those you work closely with. When people can’t match our drive, it often leaves us in a state of frustration and flux. This doesn’t help if you’re a very thorough person or a perfectionist, like me and it’s causing productivity to lag or they projects are not being completed. It can grow to be aggravating and depending on how long or short your patience, you may soon be willing to blow your top.

So before you choose your next employee or team member, ask yourself, ‘Can they match your hustle? Do they have a wealth mindset? Can they stand by you through the good and the bad?’ Not everyone is a hustler.
