Crafting Cocktails: LP O’Brien’s Journey

LP O’Brien, a Bronx native who now resides in the nation’s capital, has found a way to combine her passion for mocktails as a beverage consultant and entrepreneur who crafts cocktails that tell a story. The recent winner of Netflix’s Drink Masters, LP’s journey into the mixology world began in 2014 during her time in nursing school when she frequented a bar called The Passenger in DC, where she learned firsthand about how the customer service and creativity of the bartenders were more than just pouring drinks. She was inspired to pursue a career behind the bar. She began working at the bar and worked her way up from server to bartender and then to a management position.

Despite her success, LP faced challenges, as most entrepreneurs do, particularly with self-doubt and the pressure to prove herself in the industry. She overcame these obstacles by staying true to her authentic self and embracing her core values of community, collaboration, and education. These values not only shaped her career but also led to the creation of 70 Spritz Co., a beverage company focused on using fresh ingredients to craft both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. LP, who is now a sober bartender, has found that sobriety brings an unclouded perspective to her craft that ensures that every drink she creates is of the highest quality, regardless of its alcohol content.

Adding the title of Mother has also further influenced her career, as she is now more selective about the projects she undertakes. She is driven by a desire to be a role model for her daughter and to continue pushing boundaries in her field. One such endeavor includes participating in Tales of the Cocktail, the world’s largest bartender conference, and launching new projects that she’s eager to share with her followers.

Sharing a pivotal piece of advice to women looking to enter the mixology industry, she emphasizes the importance of remaining authentic and how collaboration is a key to success. She encourages others to stay true to themselves and not be afraid to seek guidance. She highlights the significance of walking a path of integrity, especially when it comes to being innovative and creating sustainability in beverage creation.

LP is currently working on Cool Moms Club, a project designed to support parents in the beverage industry by creating family-friendly events that allow them to connect with others while enjoying their craft.

LP often shares the quote, “The world is not binary.” She believes in embracing life’s gray areas and nuances, fostering empathy and understanding.”
