So many people have stepped out on faith and started a business in the past year and a half and I think it is great. I love working with other Black-owned businesses and brands. It makes me think about how people used to love to say that Black people can’t come together for anything. We are changing that as we work with and support each other businesses. We’re having to be relationships and friendships as work to grow our respective ventures. It’s a beautiful thing!
However, what I have noticed is that many business owners think they can do it alone. Instead of hiring or outsourcing the things they may not be as strong at, they opt to do it themselves and are content with mediocre results.
You and your business both deserve better. Not only does trying to do everything yourself bring about exhaustion and burnout, but it can also hurt your brand image because it shows. Your clients and customers are not getting your best service because you are stretching yourself thin trying to do everything, and we as consumers can tell when things are half done.
Don’t be that person. Know your strengths and accept your weaknesses.
For me personally, I know that even after years of publishing, I cannot design a magazine layout as a professional graphic designer does. I have tried it before in the past, and while I did an okay job, I know that the outcome is not up to par with the level of business I am at now. So I contract graphic designers.
I also know while I am great at copywriting and editing, sometimes I need another set of eyes to check behind me. Therefore I contract another editor to ensure we are publishing quality content.
You see, it’s like the saying goes, you have to spend money to make money. We use our sight more than we use our hearing. We go off the visual aspect of things. This is why you want your branding to be exceptional, but oftentimes we forget that our messaging has to match as well. When building a brand your messaging has to be consistent. This is where we come in.
If you are having a hard time conveying your message or keeping it consistent across the board, contact us to learn more about our public relations services. We can plan your press campaign.
If you have been doing the work but feel like it is not getting the attention you deserve, contact us. We can assist you with that.
Don’t let your business suffer because you insist on doing everything alone.
