Drake has proven to be an artist who puts his best foot forward. Judging by his track record, the Canadian born rapper is the type of person who focuses on being the best. He’s won a total of 4 Grammy Awards, 2 MTV Music Awards, 5 American Music Awards, 13 BET Awards, and 27 Billboard Music Awards. He broke a Billboard Hot 100 record previously held by The Beatles for over 50 years. Drake garnered the Top 10 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart 12 times. It is safe to say Drake is accustomed to being number one. The hip hop artist has recently obtained a new number one position. He is rapidly becoming known as the number one NBA Basketball Superfan.Â
Born in Toronto, Canada it’s only natural for Drake to be a fan of the Toronto Raptors. His courtside antics have elevated his status from fan, to number one Superfan. During the Eastern Conference Finals versus the Milwaukee Bucks, the artist was very animated. Yelling, fist pumping, and taunting the opposition were all part of Drake’s trolling package. His most memorable moments of the series versus the Bucks were the shoulder massage he gave the Toronto Raptors coach Nick Nurse, and the excessive taunting when he laughed at a Milwaukee Bucks player for missing a free throw.
As the Toronto Raptors advanced to the NBA Finals to play the Golden State Warriors, the NBA issued a warning to the rapper in reference to his courtside behavior. Despite the warning, Drake had a surprise for Golden State’s star player Steph Curry as the rapper entered the arena wearing a throwback Dell Curry Toronto Raptors jersey. Dell Curry is the father of Steph Curry. Dell played for the Toronto Raptors from 1999-2002.
During the fourth quarter of Game 1 of the NBA finals, Golden State guard Clay Thompson was called for an offensive foul. Seconds later Thompson was hit with a technical foul after accidentally hitting the official with the basketball. As Thompson walked past Drake, the rapper did the “Hotline Bling” dance.
It takes four victories to win the NBA finals. The Toronto Raptors have one down and three to go. Drake is smiling now, but we shall see who gets the last laugh once the series comes to an end.
